At age 28 aren't his best playing days behind him? Also is this just Ferguson proving that he's the boss? Seems to me the Soccer Players and coaches have egos that would make NBA players look like school boys.
I believe football (that's right, i'm european) players are at their peak at age 27-31.
And I do believe that it is Fergusons "fault" that Beckham is moving. I have been Mr. Fergusons driver btw. That was at the time I was a television star in Scotland
IMHO I couldn't care less. As far as I see it, the only thing Beckham is good at is those crosses and freekicks. He's not Speedy Gonzales, he's not a very good dribler (imo, a wing needs to be good at this) and I hate his different hair styles.
This deal does though raise some interesting questions:
1. How can Real Madrid afford this? 3 years ago it was Figo, 2 years Zidane, last year Ronaldo, and now Beckham. They have not exactly sold any players, at least not anyone valuable.
2. What position is he going to play? If I were the manager I would prefer Figo on the right wing. Figo could play left, but will be better on the right. Beckham in the central midfield, then what about Zidane and Makelele (which do a brilliant job btw).
3. Who will coach next year?
Anyway, as a Barcelona fan(boi), I am happy he didn't joined us. We (or rather I) want Ronaldinho, Cannavaro and Vieri, thank you very much. Edit: Oh, and Torres from Atletico Madrid. And maybe Canizares and Juan Carlos Valeron.
