You are a sad excuse for a human being...and doubtless a model of many others in NYC, which by the way IS somewhat of a war zone...aren't you still in the top 3 of murders per year, a perch you've held for oh soo long with all your anti-gun laws?

Er, no.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_cities_by_crime_rate

(you know on the internet people can look shit up right?)

Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and Fort Worth are "more dangerous" despite the relative ease of gun ownership.

NY is one of the safest big cities in the world despite our draconian anti-gun laws. Go figure.

Wait, you're not referring to total murders instead of per capita by any chance are you? No, you can't be, because I don't think you're that stupid. Not a chance. None.

He probably assumes all the "ethinics" walk around NYC with guns; robbing and killing white people every step of the way.

Go figure...as usual those statistics depend on the reporting done by the area which is different everywhere...in any case if you're talking about stupid I'm pretty sure the comments of another far outweigh my minor transgression on statistics.

And you should read the disclaimer that the population numbers those are based off of are esitmates, change the population a little and those percentages move with it...

Nope, said I was wrong...probably. That said if you go by those numbers anyway and look at murders...

Plano, Tx-.01
Austin, Tx-.03
Corpus Christi, Tx-.04
Ft Worth, Tx-.06
New York, NY-.06
San Antonio, Tx-.07
Houston, Tx-.13
Dallas, TX-.13

and no margin of error is mentioned....seems overall we're doing pretty good down here, though that could be way off again considering they use estimates for population.

PS you're still a sad human being.

Oh, and one more tidbit about NY...http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/nypd_stats_were_captain_cooked_ykUWy6gXcPxYl87fGonQoO

Hmm...fudging crime statistics to look "safer"?

And at least we have the ability to defend ourselves if we choose to exercise it...

The question is, at least in my mind, if our beauty queen will avoid facing murder charges.

When the dead guy was shot in the chest, the groin, its not too bad, but as soon as he started running away, and got shot in the back for his troubles, in some states, that morphs up to murder.

The my home is my castle doctrine only goes so far, as soon as perp fists go against handgun armed homeowner, the homeowner is not allowed to shoot at running away thief. Now if the thief then still comes at the homeowner with a weapon, in any state of the Union, the homeowner is allowed to use deadly force to remove the threat.

But as soon as attacker turns to retreat, thus removing themselves as a threat, and gets shot in the back running away, the home owner can face criminal charges.

Sadly such trials can becomes instant circuses, because we expect instant rationality out of human beings placed in emotional situations. All well and fine to talk about from the perspective of later, but from the emotional states of homeowners and criminal at the time, a gun and a little distance beats fists even if you are a poor shot.

I am not sure it is reasonable to expect her to stop shooting. Their lives were in danger, how do you tell if the guy was not running out to his car to get his gun?

1) Friend, all cities fudge crime statistics.
2) Murders are a bit harder to fudge than assaults and robberies.
3) You tried to somehow associate NY with being a "war zone" b/c we essentially don't allow people to carry guns. I pointed out it's safer here than most other cities that do allow CCW. That would be where you should chime in "huh, that's really interesting. I didn't know that. Maybe I'll think about what that means with regard to my thoughts on gun ownership. Thanks for the info." Instead of "I don't like your facts so I'll ignore them and focus on the fact that I like having the ability to carry a gun."

For the record, I am not knee jerk against gun ownership, but given a choice between living someplace where most people don't walk around armed vs places where people can and do, I choose the former.

Also unknown if the back was the first or last shot, he was pounding on her fiance afterall when she went to get the gun...first shot from behind while he was beating him and he turns around to get the remainder maybe?

Excellent. The gun-grabbing Lefties would rather her get raped/murdered than for her to own a personal firearm.

Suck one Kucinich!

The robber is dead and can't counter with a story of his own. With him out of the way, there is only one side of the story now.

Actually most states (39) in the US allow CC with a permit, some without...believing that NY is safer than "most" of the cities in 39 other states is a little silly, and I already posted figures for murders from your own link showing more large Tx cities with lower rates than NY...so maybe you should take your own advice and think about it...or not...but for the record none of this was about owning a gun or even CC, sorry if I insulted your lovely city.

And now I admit a major brain fart...was really thinking of DC originally, though in most peoples minds NY ranks up there when they think of dangerous places, even if it isn't as true anymore.

You have zero understanding of castle doctrine. It doesn't matter if their back is turned to you or they're running away. You are authorized and PROTECTED from prosecution to use deadly force just from them being in your home.

Thought about it. I don't consider Plano, TX (pop 272k) to be comparable to NY (8.5M). I get the stats used 250k populatoin and up, but I don't consider those two worth comparing. Ditto for Corpus Christie (282k). Austin is a liberal stronghold usually derided by the rest of TX, kinda odd to point there. The two largest cities, Houston and Dallas, which are still less than a quarter of NYs pop have twice the murder rate per cap. What'll happen when their populations increase threefold? Just doesn't seem like having guns keeps you safe in a big city.

but for the record none of this was about owning a gun

Your quote: "aren't you [NY] still in the top 3 of murders per year, a perch you've held for oh soo long with all your anti-gun laws?"

sorry if I insulted your lovely city.

Apology accepted.

Acceptance retracted. You confused my home with that hellhole? Damn you sir.

Well you did just state that NY was safer than "most" cities that allow CCW, you didn't specify a size criteria, and considering how many states allow CCW that isn't likely to be true...however as you pointed out size makes it difficult to compare, although the population down here is always skewed with so many "undocumented" workers....which also brings up the demographics being incomparable as well...

And I'm sorry if the eastern seaboard all looks the same to me:eek:

Asking the delivery dude to break big bills (even if you aren't paying with them) is not unusual especially if you are having a party and money gets involved (poker, etc).

It's funny how all guys with money and a hot girlfriend are douches to you losers.

not true. i delivered pizza for about a year. We were told to NOT carry more then $20. hell its printed on all ads etc.

EVERY place i have seen has the same rule.

IF we were doing a large deal it don't matter. we have a max of $20 cash.

to carry more is stupid.

Yes it could have turned out differently, they could have been victims instead of survivors. I see you chose a victim mentality and that is fine, but not all of us feel the same way.

what I'm trying to get at is, where do you draw the line? when is it ok to shoot someone?... and who decides?

do I feel for the perp? no, I don't. I'm fine with him getting killed, but there's a reason why the police orders someone to stop (and drop their weapon) before they shoot...

and honestly, if the guy getting his ass kicked hadn't been such a pompous douchebag and spent a little time taking a self-defense class then there wouldn't have been any need for a gun in that situation. he obviously had the time to go buy a gun.
