Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder

If this is true, then why are there beauty pageants?
Or why would there be any need for models?

or how could someone use characteristics like "beautiful, or attractive" in character descriptions? 🙂

It is true, but a lot of "beholders" tend to have similar standards of beauty.

Beauty pageants also judge a lot of other characteristics of their contestants. What you see on TV is what would interest the audience. Offstage, they have to show off other skills like dance, art, general knowledge, etc. I know one of the challenges in the Miss World contest is to learn a new dance in 2-3 days. But I still think most of them are just a waste of time and money.
