I never changed my permernent voting addy, its still in LA while i go to school here in sacramento. So i guess they are getting a rejection form saying that i couldnt make it...

bah I wanted to say "Your guilty"... oh wait i can say it without anyone getting hung.

So the question is how many ppl have had Jury Duty while being in school..

I got it a few times while I was 500 miles away taking classes.

Some people on this board will flame you for calling in your excuse, but ignore those idiots. You can serve your duty when it doesn't require you to abandon an entire semester of work.

Do people file for address changes while away at school to prevent things like this? I have not done so and don't plan on it. I do live at school like 8 months of the year but I'm home as often as possible and I don't think it is necessary. I guess it could mess up a thing like the census though as I would be counted twice.

In many cases I think it is nearly impossible to become a resident of your school's state if you are still a dependent. They don't want you to be able to pay in-state tuition without a huge hassle.

That isn't a sure thing. My girlfriend was being questioned for a jury and council asked if anyone had preconceived notions about Asian immigrants (both plaintiff and defendant were Asian immigrants). EVERYONE said yes, including all Asian panelists. The judge pretty much told them it was going to take more than that to get out of jury duty. The one person they let out without a struggle was the Jehovah's Witness.

you can postpone for school, there will be a check box for it. also, you can simply send them a local bill at your school addy and you're off for that, too.

I'm actually a resident right now in the state I attend school in.

Happened to me, but that was back in the days when they didn't really care if you didn't show up. In NYC now they come after you.

The easiest way to get dismissed from jury duty, is say that you wont be able to sentence anyone for any amount other than the maximum sentence.

Just look to George Carlin for guidance on this:
Many people think they have to lie to get out of jury duty. You don't have to lie; tell the judge the truth. Tell him you'll make a real good juror because you can spot guilty people just by looking at them. Explain that it has to do with how far apart their eyes are. I guarantee you'll be out of the courtroom before you can say, "justice stinks."

Is there an age limit (on the low end) on jury duty? I am only 19 but wouldnt mind doing it :) I am a registered voter, so is that all it takes?

Yeah, I've gotten jury duty about 75 miles away from school. Naturally it was when I couldn't miss class.
