Beating procrastination

Get started on it. The only cure for procrastination is to get to work. It won't seem half as bad when you're actually doing it.

Imagine what would happen if you didn't or started late, or recall all those times you started late and then wished you started working on it right away, you may also wish to realistically write out the schedule and all the homeworks, projects and exams you have in the weeks ahead, just to put it into perspective. Trust me, it's better to write it early than to write it late the day before it is due.

You can't beat it, so just give up.

I'm in the same boat - got a big report due tomorrow and I've barely started.

I too have a lot of problems with procrastination. I find that if I've been sitting around in my room for a while just going online and wasting the time I should be using to do work, a change in location sometimes can help. Heading to the library or a study room or something can sometimes inspire me to get writing, since there are other people studying there and I don't want to be the only one slacking off! I have to say some of the time the only way I can get certain things done is if I get away from the internet- if you're working on a laptop get away from your connection, or if you're on a desktop, maybe even start at least writing an outline with pen and paper away from your computer. Anything to get that jump start is good- as there's nothing worse than looking at a blank page. Good luck!

Quit posting on ATOT. 🙂

But seriously, when I was in school I often found it hard to get that first paragraph started. What I did sometimes was try to work backwards. Start with the ending paragraph first (or what you'd imagine the closing paragraph to summarize).

Maybe that will help get some ideas flowing as to what information you'd need to put in the paragraph before it, and so on.

Or, you could just wait until two hours before the paper is due. It's amazing how quickly ideas will come into your head when you have no choice but to put something down on paper.

Yeah, my issue is I have another day to do it, and even though I know I won't have time to do it tomorrow night, it's my nature to wait until tomorrow evening to do it 🙁

SSSSHHHHHHH!!!!

Nobody post replies. Soon he'll get frustrated, start neffing like crazy to get attention/alleviate his boredom, then the mods will give him a vacation, and he'll be able to write his paper.

I heard yo' momma gets her mitten filled by a different guy every night!

Sorry for the OT reply. For some reason, "fills" and "mittens" made for a good "yo momma" joke. Don't ask. I'll let myself out now.

Back in HS/college, I sometimes had a problem with writing papers due to the fact that I just didn't know wtf to write. B/c of that I procrastinated, would get distracted with internet, tv, games, etc. But I realized that even if I dind't really know what to write, as long as I started writing SOMETHING (as sh!tty as it may have been initially), it got the ball rolling and I eventually would have better material written. From there it was easy to get most of the paper done and after that I could easily go back and edit the beginning parts.

Not sure if that made any sense but the bottom line is that if you just start writing sh!t (has to related somewhat to the topic) it just helps to get better writing later on.
