Beat arkham asylum before arkham city?

Long story short, I was halfway through arkham asylum before I lent it to a friend. Never finished it. Should I beat arkham asylum (I know people are going to say it's a great game, and I agree) before playing arkham city? Are there story points I will miss out on?
 
Yeah, there is not much story continuation from asylum to city. Asylum is a great game and you should finish it, but not playing it won't affect your city experience at all.
