I remember a guy who used to put food out on his window sill for bears. He went away for a while but the bears broke in and trashed his house looking for food. Feeding bears is always a bad idea...even if that wasn't your intent.

if it's in the middle of nowhere, it can't be dangerous to anyone but to the bear if the rope ever fails.
