Star Trek XI: The Inevitable

Hollywood (CA) - Paramount Pictures made it official this morning: J. J. Abrams, the director of popular television series such as Lost and Alias, and most recently the director of Mission: Impossible III, has been signed on as the lead producer - probably the executive producer - of that last great certainty in the entertainment business, the next Star Trek feature film sequel. No, it's not dead, Jim; to borrow the timeless words of Michael Palin, it was "just resting."

...the story line Paramount has accepted, according to the company itself, is amazingly the same one that has been submitted and resubmitted for the last quarter century, since back when Harve Bennett was producing The Search for Spock. It involves the adolescent James T. Kirk - the original Star Trek captain - during his Starfleet Academy days, and in his first meeting with a young, or at least younger, Spock (Vulcans age more slowly than humans).

I'm not too impressed with the storyline. I think I would have preferred something more like The Next, Next Generation.

I doubt they'll be comfortable doing that unless/until they get a new TV series off the ground. For now, the movies will probably just be returns to NextGen and ToS prequels; maybe a bridge movie in the time between ToS and NextGen.

NNOOOOOOOOOO!!!

That storyline is guaranteed to suck.

I predict this will be the very end of the line for the Star Trek franchise.
