Interesting, only reasons I can think of for her to deny she served was either her later political activity or she was embarrassed by the VD thing.

yeah but its not like there arent tons of celebs known for having vd--tony bennet, robin williams, paris hilton, lindsey lohan--am i forgetting anyone?

she does act a little weird in that interview. she looks a little nervous when the interviewer asks about ww2, like she knows shes going to be asked about the marines, and then she tries to change the subject by talking about acting school

its funny that they regarded getting a disease as a form of misconduct on the same level as alcoholism and drug use.

Tony Bennet and Robin Williams are both men and while I doubt they would have gone around bragging about having VD it would not mean the same thing as it would to a woman born before the 1970's. The only thing Bea Arthur shared with the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan was being born female.

An the timeline seems to indicate she got it from her then husband.
