BE6-II v1.2 problems w/ hpt

db

Lifer
I've been re-working my daughter's computer before the next semester, and now I can't get it to recognise the hdd as ata66.
Not sure what the problem is. I've:
-used latest drivers and bios;
-when hdd is on a regular ide channel (1 or 2), it works (when hdd set to ata33) ok and system boots into windoz ok.
-no problem switching hdd between ata33 and ata66 modes as needed;
-using correct ribbons as needed (40 wire and 80 wire).

To further confuse myself, I notice that at Abit's download page, they show only the hpt366 driver for all non-raid mobos, and the hpt370 driver is shown as only for the raid board (v2).
Thing is, my BE6-II v1.2 board has a 370 chip on it, not a 366 chip.

Does that mean I can use the hpt370 (supposedly only for v2 raid board) dirver??? I currently have the hpt366 driver loaded.

Double check your board and HPT controller versions. I've got a BE6-2 V1.2 and its got the 366.

THe 370 is a raid controller, if set that way. You might get more reliable performance using the 370 driver, but I'm not real suprised that the 366 driver works.

BTW, as far as RAID goes, these controllers need the array set up in the controller BIOS, not in the OS. Using the raid controller driver will not make your system raid.

Thanks.
Turns out is does have the 370 chip even tho the board is a v1.2.
Finally got it to work with the hpt370/370a driver.

(Abit not making any of that evident or easy to find out..)
