i have some problems installing hardware in my pci slots on the BE6-II. keep getting fatal exceptions during the driver installations for my sound card (Diamond MX300) and my network card.
ive tried switching the cards to different slots but i keep getting the same problems.

i have the following setup:

V3-3000 AGP
Diamond Monster MX300
LinkSys Fast Ethernet 10/100
IBM 4.3GB HDD UDMA33

Try changing the IRQ settings in your system properties. Press the Windows key and Pause/Break key, then go to the Device Manager tab and click properties. See if your sound card is sharing any IRQs with the NIC or vid card. If it is, then go to your sound card's properties and click on the resources tab then uncheck the "Use Automatic Settings" box and highlight the "Interrupt Request". Click on the "Change setting" button below and find a free IRQ.

Good luck!

ive just tried changing the irq settings. but im unable to change any.
windows sez "no modifications allowed"
any other methods of changing irqs?

then i took a look at the irq settings while the system booted and found quite a few devices sharing irqs.

is it normal for the serial bus controller to be sharing irqs with the ACPI controller?
i have mine both using irq9

I have the same board and the same card, with no conflicts. Try installing at stock cpu speed to make sure it is not an overclocking problem, where most fatal excetion errors seem to come from.

try disabling your serial ports in the bios, then force update ESCD. It's in the pnp/pci configs, also in the bios.
i have slots agp-voodoo 3000
1- empty
2-SBLive
3-D Link eathernet card
4-creative modem
5-empty
no IRQ problems
good luck

ok, ive jus tried disabling the serial ports. but that wasnt successful. ive tried running at stock cpu speed. that wasnt successful either. then i turned off the UDMA66 controller. that didnt helpful either. switched ard the pci slots somemore which didn't proved useful also.

is there something wrong with my board or am i missing something here?
