Be the judge: Creepy or brave?

A friend of mine shot and killed herself. (No condolences are necessary - this happened 2 or 3 years ago but I was thinking about it again today). Her brother is a mortician, and he did the preparation of the body because he wanted to make sure the job was done as good as possible.

I'm truly undecided - was his act creepy, brave, or both?

A bit of both. I don't think I'd be able to do that. Then again, I guess being a mortician would generally mean death isn't as big a deal to you?

I would have to agree with jagec. It's his profession. Some one has to do it even though the profession is creepy by itself.

Under no circumstances would I be able to do the work on someone who was real close to me like my sister.

I suppose the thing that would bother me the most wouldn't matter if you'd done dozens of them (the rather uh... personal... nature of the work).

Seems creepy to us but to him it's just another body.

It's his profession, as sad as the situation is usually you want to be the first person to help a family member with your professional skills.

More brave than anything else but, because I have a fear of death (and its associated trappings), I end up having to vote for creepy yet brave.

Mostly brave though.

The only thing I find creepy is that he'd be seeing the body naked, while preparing it and dressing it, right?

Isn't it less creepy when it's a family member and not a stranger?

He probably had more confidence in his own abilities than someone else's, and no doubt would have hated for a less professional job to be done on someone he cared about.

Also while seeing his sister naked might seem a bit creepy, having someone else work on his sister probably seemed even worse to him.

Probably wanted to do it himself mainly because he knows what goes on in mortuary.
