Be thankful for how great AT is guys

My other main forum recently got bought out by vertical scope... omg what a POS theyre making it in to. I really miss the privately owned forum that was paid for by minimal sponsor ads.

Be thankful for how great this forum is guys. Many of the big ones are getting turned in to obnoxious cash cows full of ads.

The other forum is - a total mess of ads. Lots of drama going on at the moment since most of us old timers are outraged.

I did, it still blows nuts compared to how it used to be. A couple ads on a forum is fine, even expected... but littered in every possible nook and cranny? fook me!

Just paid a visit to the site & there are two banners on top plus a couple small ads visible on the sides ... no popups & no animation/flashing nonsense at all using Opera with ad-blocking enabled.

Firefox was just about as good with only one animated banner visible on top, but IE7 shows several annoying flashing ads plus a couple rotating animations as well ... my guess is your browser is the problem & you should give Opera a try.

I have the adblocker and necessary plugins... but its still very... umm... un-elegant. Even with 90% of the ads removed. I use opera, but i prefer FF (for its plugins).

I've given AT a lot of crap over the years, but deep down I really do appreciate a forum where people are actually intelligent, usually moreso than me. Considering the other main outlet for my online verbal diarrhea is the WoW forums (if you want a look at real-life Idiocracy, it's http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com ), I appreciate this place a lot more than I let on.

Anand could sell them, shut down the site, sell the site/forums, sell the forums, close OT and it's sub-forums, etc.

So you're in the process of implementing a adequate replacement?


I'm sure when ATOT is bought someone will step up and provide a replacement, and will probably at some point make money selling it off also... the life cycle will continue.

I had issues with the lack of a solid set of rules, but it just took a few months to figure out what flies around here. It's VASTLY different on each of the 4 forums i frequent.

That would be a logistical nightmare, so the answer is no.
