Be honest: Do you actually read articles linked to the OP?

I swear I seem to be one of a scant few who still do this in p&n. Say any given OP links to an article on a common news site, something that would take you 5 minutes tops to read. Or a 3 minute video clip. Do you actually read the whole article, or do you just read the other posters' comments and proceed to post your uninformed and likely off-topic opinion? I'll end with a smiley.

Only about half of the time.

But I try not to make in depth comments unless I know the subject matter.

Of course it is very entertaining when we get threads where people thought they know what the article in the OP was about and they are 100% wrong.

Too many people are apt to post "me too" kinds of responses to a thread that is premised on an article the poster has not read. You'll probably get most people answering "yes" because all of us read the OP's linked article at least some of the time, but people do quite often post without even reading it. For myself, I open a thread, if the article isn't interesting enough for me to read, I close the thread and do not post (though I might read a few posts before closing it). If I posted in the thread, it means I read the article.

It depends. If it's a big story and you've already read about it why read another version saying the same thing? If it's something really specific then I'll read it. Sometimes really retarded stuff is posted and I'll just skim enough of it to know it's retarded.

I maybe do 50% of the time, depending on how long it is, how much I care about the topic, and weather or not ive already heard the same thing 100 times over before. Or if im just lazy ill post a sarcastic comment loosely related to the topic.

Before replying I'll generally read the article and often do a Google search to check for other information to confirm or contradict it. Most of the blogs and articles posted here are slanted in one direction or another, and are trying to make a point more than report some facts.

I try to go into threads with an open mind, but then I don't support any of the parties or candidates. (I voted for Obama but only because he seemed the lesser evil to Palin-McCain, not because I trusted him. I never vote straight ticket in state elections.)

I read the links, at least in part. The ones where I kinda throw up in my mouth a little bit inspire me to quit reading...

I often google up the subject to get a better understanding, or at least to post credible links, unlike some here who post their opinion as fact, refuse to provide linkage when requested, then claim it's my responsibility to disprove what they asserted in the first place...

Another Vote for Sometimes. I know this Thread is about Posters, but if it was about OP's, you'd be surprised at the results of the Poll. All too often OP's have been owned by the very Article they Posted about.

If I'm going to respond, almost always. But since I suspect many don't, I also almost always try to quote a fairly full extract of my supporting link(s) in any thread I create.

Yes. Sometimes I will also follow links within the original article, or Google additional information before posting.

What's funny is that I could have named a number of the people here who voted "no" before clicking on this thread. And I suspect some of you are being a little less than truthful.

It really depends. Most of the time yes. However, if it is a post by kylebisme talking about UFOs and JFK, then no. (though I have at times, IE whats his face talking about the government admitting a cover up of the MLK assassination. When what really happened was a jury ruling that the government should look further into it, and the government coming back and saying there was no wrong doing).

Better question is does the OP read the article they link to? "cause if they do, half the OP's here have a hell of a case of reading comprehension fail.
