That's pretty bad.

I guess there is hope with this city council however, that the city will turn around (granted, this is just one guy's commentary, I wonder if it is accurate).

Detroit gets exactly what it deserves, stupid leadership. They keep voting morons into those positions, they deserve what they get... I just don't want our money as taxpayers to keep flowing to places like Detroit that run themselves into the ground with stupid leadership.

It's sad that detroit politics usually come down to "sticking it to the man" - all you have to do to run for a public office is be black and imply that the city is "ours". Race warfare (for lack of better term) and us vs. them mentality has been running that place for ages.

Exactly. Even if someone would hand it to me free, I'd say "No", because I'm sure the wonderful city there will nail you to the wall with some insane amount of taxation and force you into all sorts of insane regulations. Nope, I would not take property there at any price.

In most cases, I'd agree that *at some point*, the situation will get better and your investment would pay off. However, in the case of Detroit, I think it's going to be like this forever.

You can find a multitude of smaller towns to retire in for not a lot more money that don't have any of Detroit's problems. Personally, I'm not retiring anywhere that isn't sunny, warm, and doesn't have hot cabana boys to refill my rum and coke.

Go see the movie grand torino. My post is not meant to slight Asians... but rather the bleak neighborhood the Clint Eastwood's character finds himself in. If you are into barricading yourself in your home and keeping your guns at the ready... sure it might be a decent place to retire.
