Be careful if you use coupons and are an intelligent shopper

That is a lot of crap to put a person through who did nothing more than (ab)use the policies they put in place.

Interesting. Good for her.

We save a lot at Albertson's by:
1) Waiting for a sale -or- a competitor has a sale, Albertson's will PM a competitor and accept their coupons.
2) Find manufacturer coupon.
3) Safeway issues 4 "double coupons" (up to 50 cents off per coupon) every week. Use that to double the mfg coupon.

Why pay $3.00 when you can pay $1.85?

I hate JC Penney's so much I stopped shopping there years ago. I'm glad she was awarded so much. Good for her. She makes the people over in Hot Deals look like amateurs...

wow. she's good. i thought i was good the other week when i got three full boxes of kleenex for 3/$1.00

but if you want good coupon deals, just get them legitly. i clip all coupons of items i regularly buy, and items i slightly consider from time to time, and items that i would buy if they had a good sale. every week i go through the ads for the local stores, and remember which ones have double coupons (DARN YOU ALBERTSON'S.)

every sunday, the big stores nearby also publish "additional" savings, so some items would be on super sale, with a manufacturer's coupon and their additional savings coupon in the paper. on a good coupon day, i'd get an extra 6 bucks at least, which adds up over the course of the month.

oh and of course, they also print out coupons at the checkout, tracking your buying habits. if they have a super deal, i'll buy in bulk plus use this additional coupon. its great. hehe.

<-- grocery coupon whore.

Usually malicious prosecution cases against retail stores are settled for $10,000 to $25,000, said Andrew Hall, a longtime Miami litigator who was not involved in the case.
Crap, $10k is an average settlement? I'm gonna clip me some coupons!!!

What are you worried about? $500k buys a LOT of groceries -and if you're already saving 50% by playing the grocery game, I'd say you won't ever have to "work" for your groceries again.

I worked at J C Penney's for 2 years (thankfully no longer). While the customer was not at fault, some of those coupons weren't used correctly. Most of the coupons that J C Penney issues do not apply to catalog orders - nor do sale items and free shipping. The only time that we could order a product for a customer at the sale price with no shipping charge is if the store normally carries that particular item and is out of stock. And at the store that I was working we had to get approval from the manager to do this. Otherwise they will get the shipping charge and the price that the catalog has (sometimes catalogs have sales also).

Again it wasn't the customer that was at fault unless she really did conspire with the sales clerk. The people at fault was the sales associate and whoever signed off on it.

I don't understand how this would work. I understand buying the coupons and such, but you'd need at least as many coupons as items you bought (ie: you can't buy one 300 suit and have it split into 15 seperate orders). I guess if you were buying $20 items that'd be ok, but most of the stuff I'd be buying is more than that. It seems like a lot of screwing around to save $5/item.

But then I don't "power shop" like a lot of people. Maybe I should start and keep the savings in a 2001FP fund 😀

This is why there are policies for 1 coupon per purchase. Use the best one available to you and both the store and customer would've accomplished their goal... to buy/sell at a simple discount.

I think stores are playing with fire when they allow you to stack coupons... I mean that's great that it gets people more interested and in the door, but look at what real frugal people who have a ton of time can do.
