Be careful doing business with Panasonic

I purchased my Panasonic VIERA TC-P50X3 50-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV in June, 2011 it's the beginning of September now and my set has worked for maybe three weeks altogether.

I had a TIVO HD connected to HDMI 1 and my computer to HDMI 2. These were the same connections that I used successfully on a Sony TV for three years. It worked fine for two weeks and then it stopped. I called Panasonic Service and they sent out a repair crew (from Tampa..a 200 mile round trip instead of using a local repair firm) and they told me that the main board had burned out. They said that Panasonic would send the replacement board to me and when I got it to call them and they would come back to install it...which they did.

One week later the main board burned out again. Now Panasonic has the nerve to tell me that it is my TIVO unit that is burning out the boards. They say that it is very common for any cable box or satellite receiver to burn out HDMI sockets. They said that they would replace the board this time but my warranty would be void after that. I was told to call a local repair company for service. The new company came and picked up my set to repair. They called me a week later and told me that Panasonic had changed their mind and would not pay for the repair and if I wanted it done it would cost me almost $400. I told them not to do the repair and they said that I still owed them $60. I will pay them the $60 just for the satisfaction on taking a hammer to that piece of junk.

In the mean time I had hooked up a 32" Sanyo that I moved from our kitchen with the same connections and again they worked fine. They are still working fine today. The problem is NOT with my TIVO unit. The problem is with the Panasonic set...and with Panasonic employees.

My advice....stay away from Panasonic products. Their customer service is terrible!!!

Personally, I would take both Panasonic and TIVO to small claims court and sue them for the price of the TV. That way neither of them can play the blame game, or if they do, it will simply be them fighting each other, not them tell you that you need to deal with the other one. I have a feeling that Panasonic is ultimately at fault by cutting corners on the HDMI connection. If they "KNOW" that STB's burn out their HDMI sockets, then it is a manufacturing and design defect, as they could have put in a protection circuit on the socket to protect from over-voltage, but then that would have cost about $5-10 more per unit....

I had the opposite experience on my Panasonic 50" Plasma. I called them to tell them one of my speakers seemed to be blown, and they processed an order for a new speaker on the phone that very minute, just based on my verbal description. They had a serviceman out within 48 hours WITH the correct part already, and fixed it immediately. I've never seen service like that.

I guess it must vary wildly.

I had a Panasonic bluray player with problems and they promptly replaced it. If I were you, I'd get this escalated with support and threaten small claims court. The fact they 'changed their mind' is enough to make me think the local shop is scamming you or trying to scam Panasonic.

I have an aging 42" Panasonic plasma in the bedroom since 2004. Knock on wood, but its still going strong. I have learned to trust them that I now have a 54" in the family room, another 42" in the kitchen and a 32" LCD as my computer monitor. I have yet to call CS as I have not had any issues with them ...yet.
Good luck with this and I hope u get it resolved!

It sounds more like the local repair guy trying to scam you and not panasonic. I would call panasonic and verify the repair guys statements. Even if he is an authorized panasonic repair person doesnt mean he isnt out to rip you off. Years ago an "authorized" fisher repair store tried to charge me 300 for repairing my vcr (originally cost 900 bucks in the late 80s) and said that fisher would not cover the problem but her could fix it for $$$$. I called fisher from the repair shop and they never even heard of my problem becaue the authorized repair person never called them. Long story short, they tried to rip me off.

No offense, but something's up since this conflicts with almost every single other story out there about Panasonic support. The fact that this was a drive-by post (just registered to post this and never came back) doesn't help either.

Exactly. Not to mention he posted the EXACT same thing (word for word) on other sites.

I hate crap like this. "I didn't get what I wanted, so let me start spamming the internet." Not to mention we're only getting one side of the story.

7 days later, no follow-up from the OP.

I think we can safely write this off as being the fault him or a shady local repair guy, not Panasonic.

OP is more likely a Sony or Samsung employee, and there was no repair guy or TV for that matter :D

New member. One post. Same exact thing posted on more than one forum. Got a grudge?

Why are these troll posts allowed here?
