BE 5000+ vs 6400+

Got a spare AM2 board laying around. Going to pop a CPU in it. I got a Artic 64 pro already. Think I should just buy the 5000+ and pump it up to 3.2 Ghz? Will the smaller cache make a big difference? Opinions appreciated..

My main rig is in my sig so I know Core 2 Duo owns LOL

grab the 5000+BE for that price, its a steal, and plus its also 65nm which should run a little cooler even after you oc'ed it

Going from 1MB to 512KB cache per core only gives you 75-100 Mhz less performance, and that's only with software that likes cache, like games. With some software, the difference can be ridiculously small.

For $70 less get the 5000+ .... apparently many of these will do 3.2ghz easily & the cache doesn't matter much at all.

That may be true comparing Windsor core chips, but the difference here is bigger than that as the Brisbane core also has slower L2 and some odd RAM dividers that runs the RAM lower than the intended speed, making it about 5% slower per clock overall.

A 5000+ BE @ 3.1GHz, , is still ~3% slower than a stock 3GHz X2 6000+.

It takes about an extra 200MHz on the Brisbane core to match the performance of Windsor.

My BE 5000+ does 3.2 easy with a simple multiplier adjustment + 1 notch Vcore....might aswell seeing as its alot cheaper.
