Just turned 25 so auto insurance should go down big time, but my policy runs through the end parts of August. Called my insurance company and they said they can do nothing for me, but give me a new quote. I will be saving money, but they said I will lose all my time as a customer with them which will bring extra discounts in August. My insurance is paid in full through august. what should i do?

wait.

thats how most ins co's do business... they cannot change your age mid-policy period.
just an FYI... longevity matters for insurance companies.

Exactly. You're already paid in full through August so you can look forward to a nice drop at renewal time!

I havent seen a decrease in my auto insurance since turning 25, every year it has gone up. And I havent had an accident in 12 years or a violation in 7.

Turning 25 doesn't make a huge difference. Most insurance companies look at you the same until you are 30, married, have a house, or multiple cars. Nothing change dramatically for me until I got married, got a house, and multiple cars all at the same time.

Do you have allstate? you might want to check them out.. they have a new auto policy that give you money back on your policy if you are a good driver.

Meh, I dropped probably $100-$150/6 months on my auto insurance once I turned 25.

I called my insurance company when I turned 25 and got mine decreased :) I don't think mine has actually gone up at all since I got my insurance (granted I have never been in an accident and have no reported speeding tickets).

Check other insurance providers. You may find that switching to a different company may save you even more than waiting for the renewal next month. A lot of companies will now offer you quotes online. You don't have much to lose by trying it....

thats not really true... i mean, the older you get the more it will generally go down, but getting married doesnt matter, neither does your sex. Of course you get a better price when you insure a home and more than one car, but age DOES make a difference, until you get REALLY old, then it goes back up

PFF 25 nice thing about Mercury insurance is you get it at 24.

HAHA, but seriously just wait or switch companies.

Biggest difference in policy premium is when you go from good driver to bad driver or vise versa, in CA anyways.

The age 24 dropped my premium by 300 every six months.

If you where not the primary policy holder you could remove yourself for one day from the policy then not drive that day and then add yourself again to get the discount right away but that only works if you are not the primary policy holder.

EDIT: Oh and in CA Sex, Marraige do change your rate.

Sadly Lola, this is incorrect. If you are a single male at the age of 23 you will pay through the nose compared to a married male at 23 or even a single female at 23.

The age of 25 brings a small discount, as does owning a house and having previous coverage.

I know this because I program insurance rates for a living. :D

thats fine you price it... BUT, I work with it EVERYDAY and i know that when someone gets married, it has NO effect on rate.

we also have no rate change for auto insurance depending on gender. I work for a HUGE insurance co. and i work with it every day and have for many years.

What your company does isn't the end-all-be-all of car insurance.

I know for a fact that many insurance companies quote lower for married couples as well as male vs. female. I can't believe that you work in the insurance business and dispute that your gender has no effect on insurance rates.

Ummm... I don't know who your insurance is with, but what you said is generally untrue.

Rates DO factor in whether you are married or single- they are entirely seperate demographics.
And saying sex doesn't matter? That is patently false... ask any 18-year male driver who is paying through the nose and then compare to any 18-year old female driver who is probably paying half...

Not really. How long have you been driving continuously? Have you switched insurance company? Any points deducted from your driving record? Accidents? Married?

It is not the end all be all... but, i am just saying what i see. now, motorcycle insurance is rated on being married or not, but the auto sees no change.
