First time caller....
Just installed ABIT BD7-RAID. (intel845) Installed WIN98SE on it as well. All is fine, so far... I then wanted to instal the drivers for my Diamond Viper-II video card. Re booted. All is well. The card works great. Looks great too.
I read in the motherboard manual...<please install this intel chipset driver (from the supplied cdrom) before installing VGa and Audio drivers> Oops, I figured what the heck, I'll install the BD7 drivers anyways. It goes through everthing and loads alot of stuff (or so it seems) Finding stuff and loading software for it...
When I go to reboot the computer it POST and Windows comes up with a diplay error window. I click OK and the screen goes black with just an hourglass icon (unmoveable, locked up?) and that's it. I reset the computer and it comes up in Safe Mode. I also noticed in the system properties it showing me 2 cdrom devices! And the performance window says C drive is running in MSDOS compat.. mode!!!!!
I figured it was because I didn't read the manual... SO I do it again from scratch , reformating C and reistalling Win98 and THEN installing the BD7 driver. All OK again. Wow. So then I instal the ViperII drivers, reboot and same as above!!!!! Black screen of another death.
Diamond is no more, they are S3 and I can't find any drivers except what seems to be one for the Savage S2000 for linux I think.
Do I really need those intel drivers that are on that cdrom? I mean it seems the computer was just fine and it was happy with my grafix card.
Thanks to anyone that can help
