BD shipping?

To be fair, it is an exciting milestone -- and not exactly OT to the other threads.

At least we know they ARE going to be released, I was starting to become afraid that Bulldozer was going to be canned for Piledriver...

So what are the chances these are going to Cray, and only Cray?

No chance. There's a couple billion invested into the Bulldozer design, no way AMD would limit the shipment volumes just that which Cray will buy, and there's no way Cray would be buying volumes of the gear if it wasn't performing as expected.

in a joint effort with the CIA negotiations were steered towards allocating the first shipment for a new Chinese supercomputer. This special shipment also contains gremlins

This makes sense as AMD is competing in the server market by having tons of cores at around 2 GHz range. This should be easier than fewer cores at close to 4 GHz.

Xeon buyers are getting multi-socket boards to get a lot of cores. With the Interlagos, you can get the number of cores you want (up to 16) on a single socket.

Actually, I just meant this first shipment. I too would be surprised if BD was a Cray exclusive 😀

Also, this:

There are also several large opportunities that AMD will be fulfilling prior to launch, so while this looks like everyone can relax now, the work is actually just starting.

From here...
