So I decided on getting my Dad a new grill for fathers day, does anybody have any recomendations? I'm not really sure what to look for or how much it will cost. I'm looking at about the $300 dollar range I guess, but I'm not even sure if that can buy a decent one. My dad does the propane thing.

I'm about to purchase a new grill myself, and everything I've been reading says Weber grills are the best.

I'm probably going to get the Weber Genesis Silver B sometime this week (retail $499).

Weber grills are definitely superior. They are class leading on Consumer Reports as well.

In buying a grill you want one made of steel, including stainless steel burners, porcelin coated racks, and at least 3-burners. More the better to create ofset heat zones and it will also heat up to operating temp faster especially when you are looking to sear meat.

We have had our Kenmore (Sears) for 2 1/2 years and it has been performing well. It was originally $300 but we paid $179 on a Thanksgiving weekend sale, got to love Cali.

Mom has a Weber Genesis and it is definitely superior in every way!

I just use kingsford.. regular + quick start.. no fluid required...

Put a good layer of regular charcoal (cheaper ones) as the base.. spread a few Match Light ones on top.. light them and it'll automatically burn through to the bottom... nice and easy.. no propane or fluid require..

Personally, i'm neither a propane or a charcoal guy, but I prefer to do BBQ the brazilian way with this pre-burnt wood stuff (carvão in portuguese, I don't even know what it's called in english).

My dad just uses propane out of simplicity. He's a busy guy and generally doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate when the fam has a bbq. I on the other hand when I bbq, like to make a night out of it and do it slow and right. But for the way I bbq I don't need any fancy grill. Heck all I need is a few bricks situated in a square, some carvão and a rack.

Thanks for the comments guys, keep em coming.

You're probably referring to what we would call "lump charcoal".

I have (and prefer) a charcoal grill. However, I can understand the draw of the propane. Sometimes I wish I could be up and grilling in 2 minutes as opposed to 15 or so with the chimney starter.

Anyways, either way you should go with the weber. The price/performance ratio is very good.
