This is an excellent documentary that more than gives the Moonies a fair shake - one beef I have with it is that William Cheshire - a former Washington Times editor who is excellent in the doc other than one statement - he says that Bush 41, who has been major shill for Moon, doesn't know what Moon is up to. That is nonsense.

This is must see...

Moonies are pretty weird, the movie did not go into how important he is as far as lobbying and how close he is with the republican party but it would probably be thought of as partisan then, it is a BBC documentary. But good quality and history on a not enough discussed huge figure in the modern American political landscape.

If you add up Sandy Berger's document theft, Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, George Soros, and Charles Manson's upcoming endorsement of the democratic nominee in 2008, they don't begin to come close to this pink elephant in the room the republicans try to ignore of their linkage to Moon.

What must be the most famous flat out bizarre cult in the nation, the Moonies, has many embarrassing incidents of republicans kow-towing to Moon as he donates to them and started the second major newspaper in Washington, D.C. to print their message (the democrats have no corresponding such paper. Don't say NY Times with neocon Judy Miller).

Show me where the leading republicans have ever distanced themselves from it - Bush, Gingrich, McCain, Dole, Rove, DeLay, et al. Talk about a big tent, as the corporatist republicans happily suck up the money from the Moonies and the religious right...

It goes to show that the money from the Moonies has more impact in favor of the republicans that their being a bizarre cult hurts the republicans. It'd be like having the oil industry pay for one party's ad campaign to convince voters that the other party is the party of big oil corruption.

It's why corruption works so well, because the money pays for ads, and the ads affect voters' views to undo any harm from the corruption. It can do perverse things, like take the guy who did more than any other politician to get funding for the internet while other politicians got pork, and turn that into something politically *damaging* to him based on a lie.

There used to be homeless Moonie kids all over the streets hitting people up for money for reagan and rev. moon when I was younger, who knows how he makes his millions nowdays that exploiting down and out kids into slave labor for cult brainwashing and GOP fund raising is not popular anymore.

Probably back to far right wing neo-fascist gangsterism, now that has gone mainstream bigtime. ;)
