Cyclist is intentionally pushed (literally) off the road by a van, caught on camera. BBC releases clip of video on twitter with tweet "Who's to blame here?"

Driver got fired, someone at the BBC probably ate poo. Now BBC is working on a story about the rights of cyclists.

Don't understand the hate on for cyclists. Reminder to share the road. Cyclists want to get home too.

Argued with plenty of friends on facebook over this video.

Cyclist is completely in the right, asshole psychotic van driver nearly killed him and could have seriously injured others. Get him off the road.

As long as a cyclist is travelling more than 10mph they can hold a legal road position that puts them in the least danger. Other traffic must overtake cyclists as if they were another motor vehicle, so this includes waiting for broken white road markings and a gap in the traffic where a safe overtake can be made.

Here is podunk S.C., we actually have fairly common sense laws about this. Not that they're always followed but... Anyway, $250 or 30 days for harassing/honking at/throwing shit at a biker. The biker must stay as far right as possible and 2 rider wide max. Simple. Left in this case.

Those two white lines down the centre of the road means that the driver shouldn't even have been thinking about overtaking until much later.

British highway code rule 129:

http://www.highwaycode.info/rule/129

Why the Van cannot overtake

"Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.
Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 26"

http://www.highwaycode.info/rule/163

"Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should;
  • give motorcyclists, cyclists and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car (see Rules 211 to 213 and 214 to 215).
Remember: Mirrors – Signal – Manoeuvre"

There is nothing in the highway code that says a cyclist has to put themselves in the gutter to allow traffic through. If it is in a location where a cyclist may consider it to be unsafe to be passed, as was the situation in the video with a solid white line and oncoming traffic, holding a central road position stops motorists putting them in unnecessary danger.
Motorcyclists and horse riders can and do use this too.

See, that's the problem. No common courtesy these days. Me, the 200lb rider should want to protect my fragile ass from a 4Klb+ vehicle and stay to the left. Me, the 4Klb+ vehicle driver should not want to kill some smuck that is riding in the middle of the road. This is why we can't have nice things.

For the record, I'm one of those asshole that blows red lights/stop signs....under the right circumstances.:D
