BBC Documentary: The Rise of the Houthis

touchstone

Senior member
new documentary on BBC, really illuminating. check it out and tell me what you think. what really struck me was when he described the suicide attack on the checkpoint in detail. al queda attacked houthis using a small child to try and trick them into letting the car into the city, but it hit the checkpoint first. it was filled with hundreds of pounds of explosive

maybe these houthis are the lesser of two evils. i would take these guys, even with their 'death to america' slogan over aqap any day. aqap planned the charlie hebdo attacks

OP is same guy who started "NATO gonna invade Israel" thread.
Even Newell Steamer said he's nuts..
That is something we can agree on.

you two calling me wrong, if anything, legitimizes my views all the moreso. you're both morons

fyi calling an entire population 'crazy' and then equating it with every single other anti-american sentiment is about the stupidest way to view this situation as i've ever heard. please continue though, maybe other people on this forum who never post hold your views in higher esteem

I don't think there's much point in picking one flavor of crazy over another flavor of crazy.....
I 'trust' Irans proxies more than Saudies ones.

Its like Iran trains a bunch of attack dogs and sets them free whereas the Saudies just infect a bunch of dogs with rabies and set those free.

For a long time the Middle East has had grievances with each other. The US has been the focal point in how they deal with their grievances. As the US pulls back, these grievances are now a major conflict with the peoples of the area. The anger and hate toward the US is starting to shift, and there is going to be a lot of death.

Many see the Middle East as a united front and that is wrong. Many use the US as a scapegoat and generally are united in that, but its that alone.

Islam is not going to be able to unite the people like it currently has been. Those who want to control the vacuum left will create a view of Islam that will fit their power grab. So long as the US steps back, the Middle East will collapse in on its self.

bwahahahaha, "legitimizes my views all the moreso". What language is that, exactly? And you go around calling others morons? Perhaps you should start with small things. Learn how capitalization, periods and commas work. Then work your way up to bigger things, like rational thought and comprehension.

Hmm. Choose goatfuckers supported by Iran, or goatfuckers supported by Al Quaeda. Either way, goatfuckers.

At least they know how to work a shift key. :colbert:

I have carpal tunnel and it affects the distal (pinky) fingers the worst. I can use the shift key but it severely limits my typing speed and hurts my hands. Since it bothers you so much, I will try to use proper punctuation more often. I was trying to use it only when necessary.

I think they have a prejudice against the disabled. Those fucking bastards!!!

So we are supporting Wahhabis, including Al-Qaeda and its supporters responsible for deaths of thousands of Americans, over the Houthis, who have never done a thing to us?

I'm sorry my grammar and punctuation are not to your taste, and it looks like moreso is not perfect grammar and is only used "often in informal writing".

Why do you support al-Queda?

Houthis are back by Iran - who is backed by Obama for nukes and who is providing air support to Iran in Iraq. In Yemen - where our betrayed allies the Saudis are now fighting, US intelligence documents were taken AND 500 million worth of weapons were (ahem) "lost".

People increasingly agree US admin is epically inept. That's wrong though - words like treacherous and "psycho" are better descriptions. We have a US president sidning with the bad guys while he stokes WWIII.

You need a blog. Call it the Whacka-lacka Conspiracy blog.

I'm confused who's the good guy and who's the bad guy now. so very, very confused

They are all the bad guy* and we should help them all kill each other**, as long as it doesn't go nuclear.

*bad guy: someone who supports the murder of women for the crime of being raped

** I am being sardonic

We shouldn't support any of them period. As for your statement about the Houthis goes you forget that they vehemently hate the US, Israel and all Jews. Hell its part of their propaganda.

No, and there are actually Sunni's who are neither Wahhabis or AQ.

The Houthis are a proxy army for Iran and are being used for Iran's hegemonic and strategic objectives. Iran and SA are enemies (Persian v. Arabs and Sunni v. Shia). Iran can now project force into SA from the East and North (via Iraq). Adding Yemen would give Iran a presence on SA's Southern border.

It's the retirement benefits. You put in your time, go out with a bang, and get 50 chicks to party with for eternity.
Are we sure it's 50 chicks?

When it says you'll have 50 virgins in the afterlife maybe it means that you'll be in charge Muhammad's tech support team.

The ME has been a hotbed for thousands of years and remains a hotbed today. Out of this turmoil came the three great religions -- kind of puts the merits of those religions in question now doesn't it!!!

Prediction: the ME will be a hotbed tomorrow and into the distant future. After 4000+ years not much has changed in this regard and I have zero expectation that things will much change in the lifetime of anyone alive today -- or a thousand years from now.

This is me being optimistic...

Meh, the Houthis are looking pretty smart overall in that documentary. They left the Yemini government largely intact (albeit under their thumb), they understood the importance of dressing their soldiers in uniforms (appearance of authority and professionalism), and they're extremely articulate. What they get wrong can be attributed to raw ignorance as opposed to raw stupidity.

I'm not sure how I feel about a group like that with a slogan that includes "death to America" among other lines. That said, they also might be more easily reasoned with. They'd also take on Al-Quaeda of their own accord.

In any case, I say we stay out.
