Regular price was 139.99. Managed to find an open box visiontek ti200, had them mark it down to 119.60. Wasn't satisfied so talked to manager at customer service and he marked it down to 99.60. Knowing there is a $30 MIR, i went ahead and picked it up. So i'm looking at around $70 for a Ti200 before taxes.

Warm deal or hot deal in you opinion? I could still return it and wait for better GF4 deals maybe when july4 comes around.

I'm assuming you all don't think $70 is a good deal for a Ti200 anymore, is that right?

I hardly consider a GF3 obsolete technology. You must also think that P3's, 24x burners, 17in monitors, and a mouse that still uses a ball are all obsolete now too huh :)

???
A GF3-Ti200 is hardly obsolete by ANY stretch of the imagination. And it cost him less than HALF of your coveted Ti4200.
I think you got a good deal, use it and enjoy. By the time you actually NEED a Geforce4, something better will be around anyways.
Save your money and get a faster CPU and some more RAM or something. ;)

Now if only I could find an open box Ti200 at my local BB. Then I would need bargaining powers. rimshaker, you got a very good deal on this card.

I wouldn't get a Ti4200 anyway. It lacks too many of the advanced features of the 4400/4600 like BGA memory, better hsf, and it doen'st even have ramsinks at all. Besides, i'm sure by the next after-thanksgiving sale, the 4400 might be around $100 after a big MIR :D

I got lucky finding an open box. I got even luckier finding a nice manager. I immediately overclocked the Ti200 at 200/460, this is a decent card. A BB employee mentioned that BB won't be offering open box items soon, returns will simply be shipped back to manufacturers. Dunno how credible this statement is, but i'd start looking for good open box items from now on.

The GF3 Ti200 was only $99 for a special, what was it Black Sunday or something when it first come out. That was a great deal.
Yours isn't bad if that's all you need but there are better cards out. I would have grabbed it up if I had seen it :D

Most 4200's if not all don't have ram sinks, let alone most 4400's don't have them either.

It was $99 at Black friday sale after $50 MIR. So basically i get one at $99 plus a $30 MIR... only 6 months later. :D
The 4400/4600 cards don't need ramsinks at all thanx to the new BGA packaging and hsf air flow. But the 4200 cards use the normal TSOP memory packages but don't have any cooling features at all for the ram.

What could make this a so-so deal for you is the Visiontek rebate being handled by TCA rebates (wheresmyrebate.com). I STILL haven't got my rebate yet and I sent it away 4 months ago. They didn't even question or lose my paperwork, they're just a horrible rebate company. My price was $130 before rebate, and $80 if my check ever comes.

Sure, rimshaker might be more than satisfied with his purchase based on his needs, and that's fine. But to me, the ti200 is phased out by the ti4200. There's a reason why it's becoming cheap.....

obsolete? what kinda crack are you smoking dude? hmm... gf4 ti4200 @ $150 or gf3 ti200 @ $70? i'd prolly do the gf3 ti200 myself. it'll hold over til the next black friday sale.

Drysdale, hey i agree with you believe me. That's why i totally refuse to pay close to $100 for the Ti200. There's just a lot of overlap between the GF3 Ti series and the GF4. In order of preference, i'd actually choose GF4 MX, then GF3 Ti, then GF4 Ti. I'd love to get my hands on a cheap ti500, but dang, a clearance price of $331.50 at BB ain't exactly a bargain :) :(

Just to prove how hopelessly confused people are, ^^^ this guy wants a slower GF4 MX before the faster GF3.
nVidia marketing wins again.

How about you guys take a look at the Benchmarks and see for yourselves.
Yes the Ti4x00 is faster, but the Ti200 (which overclocks nicely) is right there in second and third place almost every time. Along with the Radeon 8500.

Face it, Radeon 8500 and Geforce3 are still awesome cards. If you get one for a lot less money than a GF4 you're laughing.
And the GF4MX is kinda' stinky. The 420 is terrible, 440 and 460 only as good as a GF2 Pro and Ultra. Again, the GF3 is a better choice.
And DX8 compatible that the GF4MX is not.

Oops... i guess i wrote is down wrong. My bad. I originally wrote it in order of decreasing preference

I don't even wanna touch a GF4 MX, are you kidding?? :) GF4 Ti ---> GF3 Ti ---> GF4 MX

Heh.. The GF3 Ti200 may be on the way out because of newer technology, but it aint the equivelent of a Celeron 300 when you compare it to a P4 2.2 or Athlon XP2100+. I'd say more on the lines of a P4 1.6 and if you think that's obsolete, you gotta have nothing but the latest and greatest and I'm sure you pay for it too.

Obsolete, one mans obsolete is another mans treasure...
As soon as a product is released it becomes obsolete.
There is always something newer and prettier just around the corner.

Find those open boxes guys! Especially now that BB has that $30 MIR on some video cards, i don't think it was just a memorial day thing. This could probably be posted in the Hot Deals forum, but it's contingent upon only if you find an open box Ti200, and if you successfully negotiate a lower price with a nice manager :) They should have no problem with it i'm sure, cause these ti200 cards are just excess inventory with all these other new vid cards coming out on the shelves.
