I got the BB BFG Ti4200 on the 29th. I installed the latest 40.72 driver from nvidia and tried to run 3Dmark2001. The benchmark would sometime display white polygons and then quits to the desktop.
It's obvious that this is a memory related problem, so I went to BB to do an exchange. The tech person said he wanted to test the card. So he took the card and ran the DX8.1 test (the one with spining cubes and the bouncing cubes). Only idiot would do that because I already told him that the card faults with a much higher complex scene (large texture memory). So he then went ahead and loaded up DOS (yes he loaded dos on his computer) he whipped out his trusty 3.5in disk with his "professional" diagnostic program (I think its the dell diagnostic program). He would than run some of the very basic GPU and memory function (such as display different colors and read and write to the memory). After the card was deamed "functional" he the told me there is nothing wrong with the card and nothing he can do about it.
I told him that he doesn't know $hit about testing video card, and he said he has a A+ certification and has been working as a technitian for 12 years (like that has anything to do with anything). I had nothing to say to him and walked out the BB (This is the one in Ann Arbor)
I called the BFG tech support. The guy I talk to knows exactly what I am talking about, he is very well versed in the video card technology and after I described to him what happend on my machine, he immitiately said the memory subsystem has problems. He was very nice and offered to ship the replacement card out over night (He has already informed their lab and will strip the card down to look for problems).
So the moral of the story is BB technitian knows $hit about anything and BFG tech support is very good, and if BFG is any improvement over visiontek they have a bright future ahead of them.
So how is your BFG Ti4200 doing?
