BB-8 Star Wars robot

Granddaughter wants the BB-8 robot.
My question is,,, will it work on carpets????
Every advertisement I have seen shows hard floors, etc.
(I thought this forum was a good place to post as it involves gadgets)

I would check youtube to be sure. I have one and it doesn't work on my carpet but i have a very thick carpet. On shorter and slightly harder one it will probably work.

It'll work wherever a rolling ball can get some traction... short carpet might be fine, but tall carpet? Nope.

I don't have one, but the key is that it's basically a Sphero (a mobile-controlled ball) with some fun Star Wars-specific touches. The main concern is whether or not your granddaughter will get a lot of mileage out of it. It's incredibly cool and a testament to how far robotics have come (in some ways, you're getting a tiny movie prop), but there's obviously only so much you can do. I'd get it if your granddaughter is a big fan of the series, likes remote-controlled stuff or is generally a geek, but there is that risk that she'll play with it for a few weeks and put it on the shelf.

I got it because I thought it looked cool and I have a display shelf in my office. For a toy its not worth $150. Target has a bigger version for a cheaper price. Its made by someone else. Not sure how the quality is and if that will work for your granddaughter

There are 2 of them. One is a Sphero (controlled by mobile app) and the other is a Target-exclusive toy from Hasbro (controlled by included infrared remote).

The Target/Hasbro version is bigger. I think it would probably move on the carpet. I watched a YouTube video a while back that compared them. I think the Target/Hasbro version is more affordable.
