Box says made in taiwan, looks like theres a 'fat' vs. 'thin' same as the TDK's. the spindle had a white paper on top telling users of 2.4x drives to upgrade firmware.

I've always have good luck getting the Memorex 4x DVD+R media that are Ricoh's at Staples and Officemax.
Seems like Best Buys are mostly CMC's..

All my memorex 4x dvd+r from Amazon have also been the Ricoh id, and burn near 8x in a total time of 9 mins on my Plextor PX-708A. No coasters yet, very nice quality/compatibility with the Ricoh ones.

Can anyone describe the packaging of the Memorex 50 DVD+R spindles that have RICOH:D media, and what sets it apart from those having CMC:frown: media?

I visited my local BB (San Diego) and found like FriedRiceBob described above:
"Made in Taiwan" and the 2.4x firmware upgrade notice on top.

The base and vertical center shaft of these spindles was light grey, but I didn't notice any unusual rounding of the top as Mday described.

A quick trip to the nearby Staples revealed essentially the same thing.

Mday: Was that the center shaft part of the spindle that is supposed to be rounded with RICOH media, or are you referring to the outer cover of the spindle?

Thanks!

I brought 3 Memorex DVD+R 50 pks for $20. each last week at Officemax. I got lucky, that's why I bought 3. Two are the Richos and one is CMC.
All have the same UPC: 34707 05544; part number: 3202 5544, and color purple wrapping.

The differences I'm seeing on these three packs are:
CMC's have a clear raised Memorex written on the top plastic cover. My Richo's don't.
The black bottoms: CMC's height are approx. 1/2". My Richo's are approx. 1/4".
Both mY cmc's and richo's have "the white paper on top telling users of 2.4x drives to upgrade firmware" that others have mentioned here.

The CMC's and Richo's have a black plastic center, yet the Richo's plastic directly above that black center is raised quite a bit more than the CMC's.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks Lioness, I got some CMC discs yesterday, but I exchanged them today and I was able to use your info to find out which ones were ricohs.
