I don't understand why you'd use your bayonets if you still had bullets left.

If you are outnumbered and taking heavy fire, I would like to close the distance too...at least then you have a chance because if you stay as a unit, you can take most of them, as they wont be as organized.

Yeah, but when you charge them with bayonets while you're under heavy fire, they'll shoot you.

Try running at me with a knife and see what happens. I promise I won't get stabbed. And if it were 20 of me and 5 of you, it's even less likely that any of us would get stabbed. This story just doesn't make sense. Are the rebels terrified of knives or something? Did they throw down their guns and get stabbed?

Now that I've finished my post, I wonder if I'm allowed to use the word stabbed.

Put me in a city or give me some moving cover, sure, I'll charge you. I HIGHLY doubt they charged over an open battlefield.

"After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills."

The key words are learned in drills. Training for this type of last ditch effort is what can make or break hand to hand combat. And believe me the British are among the best hand to hand combat soldiers you'll ever find.

I dunno about that must rule...but they can. An attacker can cover 7 yards before you have the chance to fire. More if you have to draw the weapon out of the holster and take aim. This doesnt even take into account anything that can be thrown...

"Peace officers across this country are trained in the so-called "seven yard rule." That is, they are trained to shoot an advancing aggressor armed with a knife at 21 feet."

It's actually been increased to 30 feet. An attacker with a knife at 30 feet has the ability to stab you before you can neutralize them.

Indeed, but that accounts for an officer having a gun in their holster. These iraquis had launched an ambush and were firing at the british... This story just doesn't seem possible unless the Iraquis A) Couldn't hit anything or B) Panicked.

Even if they couldn't hit anything, I would have just shot them. There's an old addage, "Never bring a knife to a gunfight."

I doubt most had any real practice unless they were part of the republican guard. Probably just looted the weapons depot when Iraq fell. That and they didn't have Counterstrike :)

Wow. Those iraqis must have had no training, and the brits must have had extensive training. Impressive.
