Sad but not surprising if true.

Such is the political environment in our country today, where image is everything. :(

Think this could be the Hillary effect? Could she be sucking all the air out of the room so to speak.

Like I said in the other post, when Bush started to run everyone got out of the way.
This might be the same thing. These second teir type candidates might be thinking that they will never get past Hillary and are therefore not putting forth the effort.

Anyone else have other reasons why these centrist type Democrats are not running?

it's ironic. Hillary will most likely win the democratic primaries in a landslide, but if another centrist dem ran and won the primaries, they'd actually have a chance in the real race.

Bill Richardson better not bail on me now.

Fox said he was running and Richardson adamantly denied it. I'd like to see him run too but it doesn't sound like he's going to. The good Dem candidates are dropping like flies. Pretty soon it's going to be Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Edwards and maybe Sharpton thrown in for comic relief again.

This forum needs a little :vomit; face.

Please, God, please... Give us a good candidate (on either side) worth voting for.

I hear John Edwards has made "inroads" in Iowa.
Hillary "might" have a hard time overcoming that.

Vilsack seems like a centrist...I know nothing about him unfortunately.
Any thoughts on him?

Anything on Wesley Clark considering an '08 presidential bid? It seems media is focusing only on Clinton/Obama.
It's quiet...too quiet.

How bad would it be to have a Republican in the White House and a Democratic Congress to prevent him from Bushing things up?

Works for me, as long as the Democrats can grow a pair.

Yes, because as we all know, Clintons never win real political races.... :p

I wouldn't follow the Profs lead on poltical pronouncements. His track record ain't the greatest. ;)

I'm shocked and amazed he's back so soon! No pride I guess.... :p

This is rich coming from a Bush supporter. Being critical of Presidential candidate material should be the last thing you feel yourself an authority on. Talk about vomit. Bush is Vomit personified except dumber.

I'm not sure our society can be defended merely by a standup Congress. You have to remember the GOPies have ceded great authority to the Executive through new laws. Further, the judiciary from district through the Supreme Court has picked up a lot of compliant homers.

Geneva Conventions are a valid treaty . . . ignored.
UN Charter is a valid treaty . . . ignored.
Clean Air Act is US law . . . ignored.

I hear Reagan did a pretty good job of funding proxy wars right under the nose of a Dem Congress. I can only imagine how much easier it will be in the 20th century.

I think it's the Republicans that have to worry.

Dems have at least 5 candidates that could win, Osama, Hellary, "Dumb Dumb" Edwards...Richardson etc..

Republicans olny have popular McInsane who probably can't even get the Republican nomination due to being RINO in chief.

Not to mention Iraq war will still be killing soldiers at a 3 a day clip once 2008 rolls around hurting thier whole field, as it were.

The nomination is Obama's for the taking. All the talk about Hilary being the frontrunner is laughable. Give ANYONE a choice between Obama and Hilary, they will choose Obama every single time.

Even six month is an eternity in politics---so any talk of 08 is a wee bit premature. But Evan Bayh discovered what many politicians also discover--that they may be a big Fish in a small pond---but in a large national pond---they turn into minnows.---and if you can't attract big money backing---you are a fool to even think you have a chance.

That and the fact that Bayh is somewhat of a centrist---and as far as I am concerned---and has spent better than an entire term doing zero nada zippo zip to push anything that needs done to make a name for himself---and without taking some political risks---its no gain or glory for Evan.---for any who have read Space by Mitchener---he would be another pretty face and a placeholder.---and worse yet----Bayh voted for the Iraq war.

You have it backwards. As it stands today it is Hillary's for the taking. It will take a TON of work for Obama to gain ground on her.

It would be fun to watch Hillary lose the nomination though. Think she will blame it on a vast left wing conspiracy?

It's really sad, but Obama will not be elected because America hasn't fully conquered the race barriers. He could be (and may very well be) the best candidate that has ever ran for the Presidency, but it's going to boil down to "he's black and I don't think a black man should be president" in a good deal of people's eyes.
