BayArea folks: Good place to go fishing for a beginner?

Hey guys, my dad might be visiting me this weekend, I don't really have any activities planned, but I wanted to try fishing.

My dad's pretty old, high 60's and his knee is not that good, so I'm looking for something that's mellow and where we can actually catch something we can eat later.

A plus if I can get a license there as well =)

Thanks - but dang don't know if it'll be rough for my dad, guy is almost 70!! (yes yes, I'm using my dad as an excuse, I'm the one who's scared) 😉

Well there is a trout pond that is stocked with fish right off of 101 in Southern San Jose. My Father use to take my 80 year old Grandfather and my rat bastard Nephew fishing there all the time and they always caught something. I don't believe you even need to have a fishing lisc. to fish there.

Still Lock Lomomd is very pretty and it isn't really that physically tough to fish out of a rental boat.

Salmon fishing!!! They have charter boats out of Emeryville and Berkeley marinas (there's boats that go out of SF too but I've never been on em). Get to marina around 5am, set out at 6. They've been catching limits lately (salmon fishing is red hot) so if you're lucky you'll be back before noon. Fresh pacific salmon, mmmmmm.

It's actually a lot more mellow than you think, take Bomine the night before and right before you get on the boat if you're prone to getting seasick.

Or if you're a wimp, they =have boats that go fishing in the bay for striper and halibut. But it's a hell of a lot more fun going after salmon (about same price too).

If you're serious about going, call ahead and make sure they have room on the boats.

There's a place that guarantee's that you catch fish, its called parkway lakes. There's also lexington reservoir on the way to santa cruz.
