Bay Area Traffic pisses me off

85 North/237 West is an annoying interchange. People have to merge in to traffic entering from El Camino Real and try to get on the offramp to 237 while people are still trying to get on. Friggn jams in the morning screw EVERYONE over.

Right lane = lined up for 237. It's backed up over 1/2 a mile, maybe a full mile because they have to let people from El Camino on.

Middle lane = screwed cuz idiots will ALWAYS be trying to exit last minute, and so once you get really close to the 237 interchange, middle lane is empty, because no one gets through there due to a few idiots.

Left lane = all through traffic. Yea and I drive at 9:30 AM, no carpool lane then. I wonder what it's like earlier on.

Why can't they get some friggn money and fix California's horrible roads.

Oh and the 85/101 interchange? How many friggn years has that been? Same goes with 237/880. I've gone to youth group as an elementary school kid going to Milpitas, and it was under construction. I'm in friggn college now and it's still not 100% done? Sure I like the whole HOV direct merge and the huge onramp with widened a widened 880 for the first mile or so, but traffic still stinks around there. I've only been there once through rush hour and it took me an hour to get to the BART station from Cupertino.

Hehe I used to sit in that ALL the time when I used to commute from San Jose to Redwood City. Luckily, now I travel from 87N to 101N. It's still bad, but not as nearly as bad as the area you're talking about.

If you take 87N after 9AM it's actually quite nice (except for the idiots who cruise at the speed limit in the left lanes). Before 9 though, the 87N and 101N interchange sucks.

I just drove from Houston to San Fransisco and back to Houston in 77 hours including all stops and a hotel stay. California traffic is the worst I have ever seen and is amplified by the fact that CA people act plain stupid on the road. They simply cannot drive. I have a whole new appreciation for the traffic in Houston....it isn't anything relative to LA or the Bay Area.

Well, there's that whole section between Capital and 280 where it slows down for a while. Other than that, the on ramp onto 101 is fine usually. It's hit or miss. Once you're on 101 though, it can be a nightmare trying to merge onto the freeway.

For me it actually clears up if I go at 8:55. The carpool lane ends soon and everyone switches over.... The early business people and the engineers w/ families are already gone..

Once I took till 9:30 to leave the house.. and traffic gets WORSE. THe 101 interchange backs up for a mile rather than just slowing down on the ramp...

As for CA traffic, I'll just sit on the fact that So Cal traffic is about 300x worse.

I never complained about Bay Area traffic until I had to start working. I've seen So Cal traffic suckage on all my trips...

237/880 is 100% done and has been for a while.

237 always sucks.

85 always sucks.

1. don't drive on those freeways, there are tons of alternatives.
2. ?
3. profit.

I'm from CA and let me just say that Seattle drivers are WAY worse. There's this whole concept called merging that they've apparently never heard of.

You think those interchanges are bad, just try 280 North to 880 North. That interchange is rated the worst by San Jose Mercury News.

Yeah that one is awful, at almost all times of day too. Have to deal with all the traffic getting on and off Stevens Creek.

101 South from 680/280 interchange to Capitol Expwy exit can get pretty bad.

I use 87 on my commute and 87 South during rush hour at the 280 interchange is the only place where it gets bad.

I have never been there so I cannot comment. I will say that some of the CA drivers' stupidness was quite helpfull to us. We were pulling a trailer through downtown LA at rush hour and it seems that 90% think they can go faster in the left two lanes of course bogging them down.....but they didn't seem to be paying too much attention to the farthest right lane so it became the fast lane for us. HAHAHAHAHAHA

You're telling me, especially on weekends.. Cause when you go 680 South -> 101, that lane is always backed up. I've almost been hit (rear-ended) by people numerous times. Then the fsckers honk at me, like it's my fault the car in front of me is stopped.

Was it on a weekend? If you drive day after day on the same route, you tend to drive the same way and on the same lanes. I find myself doing that on the weekend too even when the traffic is lighter.
At least we don't have to pay toll at every friggin 2 miles like it's in other states.

I used to commute in rush hour traffic from South San Jose to the First st exit on 101. It was always stop and go most of the time.
I also used to commute from South San Jose to Redwood city when I changed jobs but that was even longer and worse since there are several bottlenecks along the way. Now at my new job, I get to work at about 10am and work thru 7pm so commute is no longer an issue.

San Francisco on a weekend is another story.

Friday afternoon rush hour. It was quite entertaining laughing at the dumbasses. We have very few toll roads here in Texas and all can be bypassed using other routes so I do not see the validity of your gripe there.

My favorite was on the 5 going over the Grapevine. I could not believe just how incompetent the CA drivers were on the hills, especially when they drive them all the time. I realize pulling a trailer we were supposed to stay in the left two lanes doing 55 but the idiots made that nerve racking so I just passed all of them spending almost the entire time in the fast lanes (in which people were drivng slower sometimes) and ended up getting down the mountain in short order with my sanity. It was fun weaving in and out of the slow people destroying their brakes because they had no idea how to drive or how to use gearing to control speed. I hardly used the brakes the entire time on the Grapevine.

8-9PM is actually pretty smooth in most areas. Most people are home at that time so you shouldn't run into any problems unless there was some huge accident during rush hour that they're still clearing.
