And hence the reason for the high toll. When they have you by the balls they can charge you whatever they like.

I know it cost me like $7 to cross the state of Indiana. INDIANA!! It may have been another state in the area. They give you a ticket when you enter the state, then charge you when you leave it. Seemed like a crock of sheit. Didn't even go over any bridges.

But $4 to cross the Bay Bridge is almost as much as round trip fare on BART from Oakland to SF and back.

what, you don't have any $7 tolls over on the left coast ? Come on...

wow, the east coast has $7 toll roadways? I didn't know (no sarcasm here)
actually I just looked it up.

George Washington Bridge, Lincoln Tunnel, Holland Tunnel, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Bayonne Bridge are all $6 for passenger cars. The Verrazano Bridge linking Staten Island and Crooklyn is $8.

Price ya pay for living on an island... pic. Other bridges go for $4 or $2. Lucky us !

It's free going to Berkeley. It's nice living in southbay, cus I can always go in clockwise direction and come back on 880.

Or you could just take 280 back to the south bay fro mthe city and not waste time driving through Berkeley.

Yeah, that makes more sense, unless you have friends in Berkeley, I don't know why you'd want to go through Emeryville.

Well, I can take Dumbarton Bridge there, and come down through Milpitas on the way back. No toll. It's almost no difference in travel time.
Similar for when I go to Marin county, come back through Richmond Bridge and not pay the $5 toll on GG Bridge.

Its always about the upkeep of the bridges, or some upgrade. Like when they raise it "temporarily" but never lower it again.

With the State budget problems and the pour construction estimate by Caltrans for the new span (with cost out of control), I am not suprised that they are talking about raising the bridge toll.

They raised it because CA has an inefficient (moreso than others), unrealistic, and useless state government. They are driving your state into the ground and most are too blind to see and do anything about it.

Tolls here were supposed to be for recuperating the build costs... yet it doesn't look like they'll ever stop collecting...

The San Mateo isn't affected by the toll hike, which is good for me since I use that bridge the most.
How many of you guys have fasttrack?

I had to use the Bay Bridge last week. I was in the area on business/vacation, and the first time I had ever driven that route. I needed to get from Sacramento to San Fran airport. The $3 didn't phase me at all. It was the unbelievable traffic that had me in knots! The damn toll booths were backed up for miles, probably 45 minutes of stop and go traffic! And on a Sunday afternoon, no less!
