Bay Area Broadband?

This is just a quick question to everyone in the San Francisco Bay Area. In light of all the events that have been going on where do you think people who live in our area (particularly palo alto/mountain view) stand as far as broadband connection options. Before this huge @home fiasco I was a few thoughts away from switching to At&T's cable access as I heard it provided great download/upload speeds. I'm looking for connectivity mainly for gaming and file transfer and can spend about $100 a month on the service. I'd like your recommendations for ISP's around this area and maybe your past experiences. I've already researched up on dslreports.com but wanted some input from this community.

For reference, I have PacificBell SBC ADSL residential service. I pay $40 a month and the service is actually very good. I'm looking for better still, as I want a bit more bandwith at my disposal. Once you get past PacBell's horrid installation shiz I found that the service is very reliable and almost never out. Here is a speed result from dslreports... this is what I'd like to improve on:

Test running..........
** Speed 1223(down)/107(up) kbps **
(At least 24 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logging result
Finish.

Thanks
