My AMD system runs just fine. The last time I had a problem with an AMD processor was when it was paired with one of those VIA chipsets.

Whooo!!!!

AMD may actually break 1& of the server market!

And thesearen't SERIOUS servers.. I guarantee they aren't mission critical, and I gurantee they are all backep up by Intel servers.

AMD is and will always be an enthuiasts/low end CPU.

I've owned one AMD system in my life and that's the last one I'll ever own.

Clearly a significant portion of ATOT needs their hands held (and to be spanked when they buy sh!t eaten third-tier motherboards. They wouldn't buy an ASROCK mobo for their Intel, so why do they insist on buying one for their AMD?)

Read the article They are getting their machines from HP

Microsoft will use HP Proliant DL145 and DL585 servers in North America, Europe and Asia.

Those are very, very nice servers. I was referring to the fact that a significant chunk of ATOT can't seem to build a stable AMD box. I knew damn well what Microsoft was going to buy, and quite frankly, I agree with their choice. These servers are essentially a compile farm if I read the article right (and I've used this service of theirs before) - and compiling 64bit code on a 32bit server isn't a good idea.

So you're saying it's the CPU that's causing the crashes? Can't be chipset, or ram, or drivers.... or the user? Has to be AMD?

yep, low end servers.

I don't see how a server that supports up to 16 gigs of RAM and 2x 2.4GHz CPUs can possibly be low end. It's not a given that they're getting the base config. And a low end server is a single CPU with 256mb of RAM running Mandrake.

It's no SGI farm, but it's definitely not low end. If you think that's low end, I suggest you take a look at the real world, where most "servers" would pale in comparison to Dell Dimensions turned on their side and thrown in a rack cabinet (I have personally witnessed this, but didn't have my camera).

Laughs hysterically.

:p

My AMD systems get great uptimes. My Intel systems had great uptimes (they aren't powered on anymore). What's the big deal? Uptime is meaningless.

EDIT: Hehe! Found a 240 day! :p

Shouldn't that thing have been patched a couple of times by now? :p
