OK I haven't played a good fantasy/role playing game since Ultima Online, and I am getting tired of 3D shooters for the moment, so what do you all recommend for a good role playing game? Seems to be the two biggies are Baulders Gate II and Diablo II, but I also miss that online community of UO. Any suggestions?

Definitely Baldur's Gate II. If you're wanting that big, online community, you might also want to give Everquest a try.

Try the demo for Sacrafice. I did and got hooked. The only problem is I need to wait for the holidays to get as a present.

A second vote for BG2. It's huge and very enjoyable. Like all RPGs, the quests can get a bit repetitive, but i still rate it highly

BG2 is definitely a good game, but like you i miss the online community too (i play BG2 with my gf, too boring to play by myself).

Everquest is the best MMORPG out right now hands down. They have like 40+ servers, each with a min of 1200ppl per server at prime time. A new expansion is coming out REAL soon (a couple of weeks?), Scars of Velious.

But if you value your relationship, job, and social life, i would stay away from EQ.

I agree with BG2 ,also Wizards & Warriors is not bad especially the more you play it & once your characters are pretty strong well that`s when the fun begins.

Wow I hear alot about BG2 and Everquest being so much better than Diablo 2. I like Diablo 2 alot but I can't find games anymore thanks to battle.net new way of showing the game list and it is so annoying I don't play it much.

What's BG2 and Everquest like? Is it real hardcore RPG or more like D2?

If ya like a more traditional rpg game go with BG2. If ya want a game that can be played over and over go with Diablo2. My favorite though has to be BG2. The game is huge. Its at least three times the size of the origanal. And when ya get tired of BG2 you will be able to export your characters to the upcomming online rpg game Neverwinters Nights.

So how is EverQuest now? I did the beta testing for it a while back, and I thought it was good, though it seemed to be missing something....but I am not sure what? Before that I played UO for over a year and though I loved the game, I got tired of all the dam cheats and the fact that if you don't play/spend 40 hours a week on it, there is not way to compete. What about Asherons Call? Sounds like I will get BG2, do you all recommend playing the first one first? I read in some reviews that you will be a little lost if you have never played it. I?ll also try the demo for Sacrafice. Thanks for the input.

This is true with all online RPGs today, b/c they are experience based. There is a non-experience based one coming out next year, where you also get to do some building as well. I assume it will be more episodic in nature which will probably make it successful.

I liked the first BG alot. It isn't a must to play the second one but its still fun. They didn't make it so you can import your old characters to the new game unfortunalty but you will be able to save your new BG 2 characters for any new releases.

Yeah. This game was brilliant, well-crafted, and IMO way better than either BG1 or BG2 or Icewind Dale. Even though it uses the Baldur's Gate engine and by the same publisher, it was developed in house by different people that those who made BG1 and BG2. I'm playing a pirate RPG called Sea Dogs It's pretty good. It's sometimes nice to play RPGs without the fantasy stuff.
