So after a friend recommended it I decided to watch battlestar galactica. I went to Hulu and the only thing they had was "Battlestar Galctica Classic" from the 70s and Battlestar Galctica Season 4. I decided to watch the classic first and was rather disappointed. It seemed like a star trek rip-off (or vice versa), but the story line was rather slow developing and boring.

Before I get some of the newer episodes from Netflix (Hulu doesn't appear to have them) - are they any better than the classic? Is there any specific season to start watching?

The classic one sucks. The newer one was good in the beginning but now towards the end of the series is kinda sucks.

I didn't watch much of the original but as far as I can tell, the new one is very different. I would judge the new one by itself.

The original was nice when I saw them back in those days.

When watching them again now, or when watching the new series, I do not like either much. But since I used to watch the original series I dislike the new one more since the actors don't match my memories.

1978: Battlestar Galactica vs 2003: Battlestar Galactica

its quite different...as any remake will be. think 1970s batman tv...

watch the new one starting with the mini series pilot. it is good stuff

DO NOT rent the newer episodes from netflix, rent the mini series first, then the seasons in order.

it is not an episodic show, you have to watch it in order.

Agreed with most here. Never saw the old ones but from all accounts it's terrible, campy 70s TV. The new one is good at first. Seasons 1, 2, and the first half of 3 are all good, as is the miniseries. Since the second half of season 3 began, though, it's been pretty bad. Lots and lots of personal drama, no focus on the few characters who are actually likable (those who weren't killed off, that is), an overly convoluted story, poor/slow pacing for what should be an action show, etc. To sum it up in one word: ANGST.

Hell, they're doing their last run of episodes now. I'd say catch up, get through some of the big events from early in season 3, and then skip straight to the last one or two episodes once they come out. Nothing in that gap is really worth watching.

they dont have the older episodes of the new BSG online at hulu or scifi.com. You have to get them from a torrent or rent the dvds or something.

Like others have said, start with the mini series or else you will be lost. By the time the series starts lagging in parts, you should be too interested in the outcome to stop watching. At least that has been the case for me.

Miniseries was friggin awesome. Great plot, characters, etc. All around a great 3 hours.

Season 1+2 were pretty good as well.

Season 3 about mid-season it starts to get boring.

Razer (Season 4 ep 1 and 2) is meh, but you get to see some cool fight scenes (Pegasus during initial attack)

Wtf is up with the Tyrol's kid stuff? What a waste of time to even bring into the story. Oh and why don't we find out more about Helen (not saying she should be in the show)? Was anybody else weirded out by the end scene with Adam/Roslyn?

battle scenes are expensive, though.

I think the focus on drama is the hallmark of any sci-fi/fantasy show on a tight budget.

I thought the whole point of it was to show that there really is only 1 human/cylon hybrid (Hera, thus why she's so special)
