Anybody else playing this? I just discovered this game after hearing about it on a WoW podcast a couple of weeks ago and decided to give it a try after seeing it listed as the featured game of the week in the Apple app store. I assume console games is the place to post this since it can easily be considered a handheld game and this is where the DS/PSP talk goes.

I've only put a couple of hours into it so far, but I can easily say this is one of my top 3 (if not the top) favorite games on the iOS platform. For those who have played any MMORPG, this game really feels like that kind of battle experience shrunk down into a single-player game. Although roles aren't explicitly stated anywhere I've seen, it's quite obvious that the battle system and roles are taken from popular MMO's like WoW.

Everything is here including tanks, healers, range dps, melee dps, aggro, cooldowns, kiting, etc. You have a roster of many different classes of which you choose 4 to take into battle. From what I've seen thus far, there are at least 7 or 8 different classes, including the barbarian, knight, healer/cleric, bard, wizard, witch, rogue, etc. There may be more classes that I don't remember or haven't seen yet.

The typical RPG fare is here as well, including leveling up your characters and unlocking new talents and abilities. You unlock a new talent every 5 levels, at each point you get to choose between one of two talents. You can only have one or the other and so far I'm really liking the choices since I typically always go back and forth on which one to get, since they both seem useful. You can change your talents at any time in-between battles, so you don't have to worry about choosing the "wrong" one, or you can switch based on a battle you're having trouble with.

The control scheme works very well in my experience. Sometimes it is hard to select the member you want, but once you get used to it and get better at directing your guys, it's a lot better. For example, I'm constantly moving my healer and range dps to be out of the way so I can select my rank or melee dps, but still close enough to receive AoE healing.

All in all, it's a really great game and I recommend it for RPG fans. It is providing a nice challenge for me so far into the second world. I have no idea how long the game is, but there are enough talents to get up to level 40 I believe. Two hours of play has gotten my main 4 guys to level 11 or 12. There also doesn't seem to be any story, but I don't mind that at all, since I probably wouldn't pay attention to it anyway.

I like it. Bought it the other day and only had time to play the first 5 battles but it is fun so far.

So it sounds like it's more real time combat vs. turn based? I mean there might still be attack "cooldown" so it's pretty much turn based, but as long as it's not fully turn-based where I have to select "attack" from a list I'll give it an honest shot. I can't stand that garbage.

its not turn based at all. there are cooldowns for skills/spells, but its RTS all the way.

Yeah, like chorb said, it's all real-time. You basically choose which target you want each individual member of your party to attack and they go at it. When you want to use a special ability, you select the person and their abilities pop up in the upper-left corner.

As I get deeper into the second world, it's taking some really quick thinking and maneuvering to succeed. For example, in one of the earlier levels in the second world, at one point you're focusing on picking up skeletons and ogres with your tank. Then, two oozes come into play that focus on one of your players and stay locked on no matter what. They can't be tanked and hit really hard, so you have to kite them around (if you're lucky, they'll both only focus on one player). Then, two enemy healers pop in and start healing all of their buddies on the screen. So you're keeping the skeletons and ogres in check while kiting the oozes and trying to focus fire on the healers, since attacking anything else while they're up is a pointless endeavor. All the while, you need to make sure you're focusing heals on the tank and topping off anybody who gets hit by an ooze, since they do a ton of damage in one hit. It can get crazy.

The art and animation in the game are superb as well. Runs super-smooth and looks great on the iPhone 4 high-res screen.

It is all about the bard with two 6 second cool down items. Never-ending buffs!

I picked it up when it first came out and took a group to level 45 before kicking my cleric out and power leveling a bard.

Geared the whole crew in tier 9 gear. Now just waiting on new content. The dev will be adding an archer toon in an upcoming update.

What does the Bard do exactly? Seems like he heals and that's it, is he better than the cleric at higher levels?

Yes, no offense though. His constant heal song and group attack buff song make him invaluable.

I wish they'd revamp the UI for the iPad since it has so much more screen real estate to work with. I've been playing it on my phone for a little bit and the biggest problem I have is my fat fingers selecting the wrong person :\. If they put unit frames on the bottom of the screen (players + enemies), and enabled dragging from portrait to portrait to perform the same action as dragging from character to character, it would work rather well.

Other than that, it's not too bad.

Been playing the game a little more and I would definitely say that my least favorite thing about it is the control scheme. I've had to retreat a few times now because I thought I was telling my healer to heal a target, but apparently that wasn't the case. Sometimes it ends up moving my healer into a large grouping and then it's pretty much just a loss cause, because you can't select a character that's beneath another.

Interesting attempt at a control scheme, but it's, in my opinion, a failed attempt. The method that I mentioned earlier would make this game far better.

EDIT:

And there goes another forfeit because it's fucking impossible to target a guy when your characters get bunched up.

I agree, the control scheme is really starting to keep me from playing later into "world" 2. Those damned maroon bats lock onto a player and it's really hard to tell who they are going after sometimes. If they start going after your healer or range, then you have quite a few of your guys bunched up and it gets impossible at that point.
