I just saw they released specs for for star wars battlefront:

OS: 64-bit Windows 10 or later
Processor (Intel): Intel i5 6600 or equivalent
Memory: 16GB RAM
Hard Drive: At least 40 GB of free space
Graphics card (NVIDIA): nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Graphics card (AMD): AMD Radeon R9 290 4GB
DirectX: 11.1 Compatible video card or equivalent
Online Connection Requirements: 512 KBPS or faster Internet connection

I have windows 7 pro, 16 GB ram, and i5 3570k along with a 980 ti

how much faster is that i5 6600? To be honest I have not kept up with technology over the years except upgrading my video card, and still running at 1080p

will i see a difference if I am not running the latest chipset?

For a second I was shocked because you didn't specify that those are the recommended specs for higher graphics settings....

And while the 6600K is a good bit ahead...its' actually not as shocking as I would've expected (looking at Cinebench scores).

Just don't expect to run the game at max settings with that CPU (or expect 60fps in that matter)

thanks well that stinks I figured the 980 ti would hold me over until next major rebuild in a year or two at 1080p

edit: would overclocking my i5 3570k make a huge enough difference?

Overclocking always kinda helps...but first just check how it runs ^^

I don't see why you won't be fine.

You can overclock the 3570K if you need to.

You can also drop a 3770 or 3770K in the board if you need to.

They seem to be focusing on the current ranges instead of actually going back and trying it on older configurations.

I guess this approach helps hardware sales in a way but if people look at the specs and realise they don't have the latest they might not buy the game.
