Well I went official and bought it anyway today at fry's for $25 in anticipation of DC ports, etc. I still think it's a huge disappointment, but hopefully something good will come of it.

My $25 was more of a homage to 1942.:D

The helis suck balls in BF Vietnam.... they fly like planes. Much more fun to fly the helis in DC, although it takes a lot of getting used to. I'm a pretty good pilot in DC (can land, circle strafe a target, hot drop guys, etc) but I cannot, for the life of me, fly choppers in Vietnam. I'm always crashing them into the ground because they fly STRAIGHT not upwards. It's so weird and annoying. For chopper flying ill stick to DC, for some fun Hand2Hand where I can sneak around in the bushes, Vietnam rules.

Hopefully with time glitches and bugs will be fixed and we can start to see some great mod ports on this engine! :) I'd advise all to buy for support to BF!

It took me a few days to adjust...but now I can control the helis better than I ever could in DC....I was flying at about 10 feet over enemy bases, between trees, capping the flag and killing anybody that spawned....quite fun...My landings are improving all the time, I was overshooting at first but nearly perfect now.

Main differences I can see from DC, yaw is more responsive/quicker, and pitch is less responsive(which caused me some deaths at first from diving for speed and not pulling out in time). Also In a hover the BF vietnam ones seem less twitchy.

It took me a few weeks to get good with DC choppers, and only a few days for the BF:V ones....don't know if playing DC first played a part in that or not, but I like the BF:V ones.

i'd have to agree
overall, helis and planes seem more realistic

I was ok with the game so far, but this spawn kill stuff just ruins it. I was in a couple of servers today where I kept getting killed as soon as I spawned. It was literally spawn, get killed, wait 20 seconds, spawn again, repeat. I bet I wasted 10 minutes just dying and respawning and all that junk. Some pain in the ass on the other side was piloting a helicopter gunship around our base wiping us all out too. Then the map ended and it was another 5 minutes getting the next map going. Bottom line, I played for a half hour and got about 5-10 minutes of real gameplay out of it. I'd say it's more frustrating than fun. Also doesn't impress me that much with graphics and gameplay and stuff. Looks like the same engine from Medal of Honor (3 years ago). Cool concept and sounds, not so great on implementation and gameplay.

Thumbs down.

All BF needs is a ~20 second grace period after you spawn, at least as an option in the server.

Its choppy with my p4 3.0, gb of ram, radeon 9700 pro..even with video levels set to medium. Also, the m60 is way too powerful.

That is all.

There, I said it. It's Battlefield 1942 with grass and trees, it's a total disappointment.

I'm going back to desert combat.

Good, have fun

They need to watch Black Hawk Down. Hueys should go down after 1 RPG or SAM. Huey spawn killers make the game impossible.
