i just got bfvietnam and am pretty happy with it. my question is that i would like to put a small lan party with some friends that also enjoy the game. i read on ea's site that you need a 1.8GHz machine for just 16 peeps. is this true? has anybody done it on less? that seems like a lot for a dedicated game server.

Is EA talking about 1.8ghz for a dedicated server, or for a person playing the game and hosting the server at the same time?

1.8ghz for a dedicated server sounds excessive to me. I've run bf:1942 on a 500mhz server with a dozen guys. The server was slow to load levels, but the actual playing wasn't a problem at all.

If I were going to host a bf:v dedicated server, I suppose I'd try to get a 1ghz for sure just so that the levels will load faster for the players. I'd be suprised if all that speed gets used once the level is loaded.

I suppose if you have bots in a co-op game, that would make a difference.

this is from the ea site:

Server Admins
Be advised, BFV has a higher bandwidth requirement than Battlefield 1942. This is due to the new features added in the game such as overgrowth and airlifting. We are working to optimize these further, but a simple solution includes properly choking your servers to the appropriate setting. We also recommend that you run only one instance of BFV on a server based on your bandwidth pipeline. Some rules of thumb include:

16-player: WinOS or Linux/1.8Ghz processor/256MB RAM/T1 connection

32-player: WinOS or Linux/2.8Ghz processor/512MB RAM/T1 connection

64-player: WinOS or Linux/3+Ghz processor/512MB RAM/T3 connection (You will need at least 4Mbit of bandwidth)

from what they say it sounds like a dedicated machine.... damn, 64 players needs 3GHz.....

Anyone who can afford the bandwidth of 64 players can afford a 3Ghz machine.

LAN? that is a lot of power for a dedicated gaming server. i think it is crazy. 16 players = 1.8GHz, 32 players = 2.8GHz, hell that is as fast as my main machine...

i can understand having a 2.8+ as your main machine but just as the server i think really shows how bad their code is
