Apparently, "- The following sound cards do not support the Hardware Audio
Renderer option:"
...
Creative Labs SB Audigy 2 NX
Creative Labs SB Audigy LS - (5.1)
Creative Labs SB Extigy
Creative Labs SB Live 24-bit
Creative Labs SB Live
Creative Labs SB Live PLATINUM
Creative Labs SB Live Value
Creative Labs SB Live X-GAMER
Creative Labs SB Live X-GAMER 5.1
...

Is it just me or is it totally asinine when they say " We recommend Creative sound cards for use with Battlefield 2."...but then don't support most of their cards that have surround sound.

Hell the SB Live 24-bit (which I have) isn't that old and supports "24-bit Advanced HD" which is logoed on the BF2 box. So does that mean no surround sound for me? :(

I have SBLive! and the game has been working just fine with the hardware sound option enable.

So which of the creative cards do they actually support/recomend?

Are you sure they are not talking about EAX4?

pretty sure they're talking about the X-Fi option that is in the game but obviously the cards aren't out yet. I'm using hardware accelleration as well with my Audigy 2 without issue.

At the time of the list, it appears that only the Audigy 2 ZS was not ruled out for use of the hardware audio renderer.

really?...do you have some hacked drivers or is the eax option turned off or something? Do you get 3d surround?

My problem is that most everything will work fine except that only the speech stutters like MAD. "r-r-r-r-r-o-o-o-o-o-g-g-g-e-r-r-r- t-h-a-a-a-a-t!" it's very strange.

For now I disabled the SBlive in hardware profiles and am using the onboard sound which atleast gives me hardware 3d surround, but no EAX.

I've found that using the software option = no surround sound...atleast not for me.

I've an Audigy LS, and every time I select hardware sound, the sounds becomes all garbled. So I leave it on software, and it works perfectly.

I'll probably pick up the value version of the X-Fi.

As far as I could tell they're talking about the "hardware" option. I don't know what all that entails....frankly you'd think that they'd make it backwards compaitble with the other EAX's.

No hacked drivers here. Just the ones I donwnloaded from Creatives site. I used to get alot of stuttering with onboard sound or with the sblive card. And with hardware or software selected on the game options menu. Disableing fastwrites on the bios was the only thing that did the trick.

Really?? I thought that had to do with AGP and the vid-card. So you have EAX enabled? I mean, I find it odd that you wouldn't have stuttering with an SBlive! (original?) and yet I would with a card that's a few years newer in the same line.

As far as fastwrites go....I have a Dell Dimension 8400, so I don't think that option is available to me.

Are you using the drivers that came with the Dell or drivers from the Creative's website. I've heard that the SB sound cards that come with Dell's are stripped down versions of the originals so that only the Dell drivers will work for them.

Maybe....why the hell does Dell cripple hardware like that (6800gto anyone?). I guess I could try those drivers. I was using the latest from creative's website.

Yes I do have EAX enable and the sound set to high. No problems here. Try downloading the drivers from the Creatives site. Who knows maybe it'll do something for you. And as for not having the "fastwrites" option on your bios, that is why I like to build my own instead of getting a pre-built system.

Yeah....serves me right for being too lazy to build this time around. Hmmm...which drivers do you use exactly? I have the latest for my card from Creative's Webupdate. Maybe I can somehow use yours.

....or I wonder of those SBLive!2Audigy hacked drivers would do anything....I just don't know where to find them.

Go Here and select Sound Blaster (on the first colum), then Live! , and then 5.1
Then select the driver "Sound Blaster Live! - LiveDrvUni-Pack (English) (23.32 MB) 28 Feb 03".

It is an oldie as far as drivers go, but it works and that is all that matters.:D
I hope it works for you....There is a big difference (quality wise) between the medium and high settings in BF2....meaning that you'll be able to tell. Good luck! Let me know how it goes...

Well those don't install (sblive 24-bit is an Audigy LS DSP I think)....but I wonder if I can manipulate the INF. ....might screw the pooch for the card...but hey! could be fun.

hmmm....i think I may have found a solution. Hopefully a compbiniation of this (bottom post) and the these instructions will do the trick. Otherwise I'll just wait for a value edition of the X-fi to come out.

well that was no good. I'm certain is because of the DSP. The regular Live!'s and Audigys have the emu101k and emu102k (or something like that) DSPs respectively. The Live! 24-bit has NOTHING!

....hopefully a value edition X-Fi will come out in the near future. For now, I've taken then damn card outta my box (for retribution) and will live on onboard sound which atleast gets me 3D positioning (though no EAX, which I'll admit sounds worlds better).

...*sigh* :(

I have been thinking about upgrading my sound card. But I dont want to go with another Creative card. I just about had it with their drivers. They are to unreliable. I'm thinking M-audio or something else...Via Envy chip.........dont know.....I rather have more stable drivers.

They still support most of the Audigy2 cards which are new and most of the Audigy cards. Yes, they support only so many generations.

Yeah, the Audigy 1s and 2s are a good number of cards. But if their big thing is EAX, you'd think they'd support the Live! line as well. As it is, the Live! 24-bit is actually newer than the Audigy 1s...it just apparently doesn't have the emu101k (or whatever) on it (at least that's what I've read on the driverheaven.net forums).

It's interesting because why would they release an updated Live! card, capable of the whole EAX Advanced HD, 24bits/96khz thing....and exclude hardware that earlier/older cards had? I think it must have been intended to be a budget card geared for music and not games, abd because of that chip everyone who owns an old live card can essentially update (driver/software-wise) their cards into an Audigy 2 ZS....but not me.
