I played the beta and game play was ok but I just dont like where their direction is pointed compared to other BF titles. Plus.. BF4 was screwed up for so long that I would wouldnt dream of buying this till it looked safe..

I skipped BF4 so I might pick this up at some point. It was fun to play. There's just so many other games at this point that have my interest though.

Enjoyed it on PC. Didn't like it on PS4. Some of the cool moments required a level of movement agility I could'nt reproduce on the PS4 controller.

Overall, I feel the series has gone slowly downhill ever since 1942. Instead of being Battlefield, they try to be call of duty.

I certainly don't recommend the game at $60. Maybe at $29, but I won't buy it until it's under $10.

Definitely feels like Battlefield to me so far. Really enjoying it, actually. I bought because I was standing next to a copy in Target and figured WTF, why not. Glad I did. Will report more after I've had some more time with it.

If you own BF4 then it's just an add-on.

If you don't own BF4 it's a decent game.

So basically every Battlefield sucks after the first? I for one loved Battlefield 2, even with all the bugs. Plus Battlefield 2 came out before CoD turned Modern War.

Anywho I haven't bought this game. I've owned all the Battlefield games day one going back to 1942. Played the beta and while it was fun it didn't pull me in, didn't feel Battlefield enough for me.

I loved BF2, I just didn't cry and worship over it like I did BF1942. I even liked BF Vietnam, which gets pretty much no love whatsoever.

I didn't mean it to sound like a steep cliff dropoff, I'm just saying the quality and uniqueness has gone down steadily.

It doesn't even resemble a battlefield game anymore. Not interested

Of the people I see/hear complaining about Hardline, it seems pretty evenly split down two mutually exclusive / contradictory sentiments. One half thinks it's too much like BF4, another half says there's not enough BF in it.

Sounds like they hit a sweetspot :)

Had more time to play it, and I'm really enjoying it. Campaign is on rails, but still enjoyable, which is a rarity for me. I hardly ever play SP. SP graphics are gorgeous, btw.

Heist mode is a blast, but also total anarchy without team work. Players with ADD can't decide if they want to loot the central stash, raid the enemy stash, or protect their own stash. Still, it's fun.

Conquest modes are as good as ever. Conquest Large isn't as large as BF4, but in the absence of jets, it doesn't need to be. All that space in previous BF's were essentially for them. I actually prefer the new large: enough space between points, but not so much that huffing it between them is a chore.

Also enjoying the new unlock system, even though it's borrowed from Black Ops. If it works, it works.

Game is MUCH more stable than BF4 was at release. Haven't had a single stability issue, crash, etc.

im thinking like that too so it's downloading now. i like infantry focused play but not COD. i hope this is battlefield style infantry fighting on infantry sized maps.

Played it for several hours this weekend, as did my son.

More thoughts:

  • Maps have a lot more "stuff" in them. Nice to look at, not so nice for gameplay.
  • Graphics appear slightly improved upon from BF4 - could just be placebo affect
  • Requirement that you have to get x kills with a purchased weapon before you can use it with any faction is stupid. I bought it. I should be able to use it 100% of the time.
  • Still no stability issues whatsoever. Definitely the most solid Release Day Battlefield to date. Since it basically IS a mod sitting atop BF4, that's expected.
  • Despite being classifiable as a mod sitting atop BF4, I still think it stands on its own... certainly as much as BF4 stood on its own relative to BF3.
  • There are definitely some spawn issues. They're not frequent, but they're enough to piss you off every now and then. Nothing like running and then an enemy spawns right at the end of your gun. Pretty nice, unless you're the spawnee. Like I said, doesn't happen frequently - maybe a couple times per match, but it's annoying.
  • Still a total lack of team balancing. Unlike the spawn issues, this is annoying MOST of the time. Now that we have modes that are shorter and take place on smaller maps, imbalanced teams come at a much greater detriment. It's 2015. Get with the program. Come on, man.
  • Movement in Hardline seems slower than BF4. Not really to my taste, but probably to many others' tastes.

I'd like to talk more about the first point, because stuff like this really grinds my gears. The maps are way too candied up with things all over the place. Seems like every building is chock full of those metal shelves floor to ceiling. Just rows of them. Everywhere. Makes identifying enemies cumbersome as hell, and shooting them even worse. I've been in scenarios where the other dude and I empty two full clips before someone dies.

Simply stated, the maps lack flow. No choke points, no reason to expect enemies to take one particular path over another. Just wide open spaces with intensely cluttered interior spaces. True, it models the real world better, but so what. I loved maps like Zavod (especially playing Domination), the prison, Dawnbreaker, Lancang Dam, etc. Even outdoor maps managed to squeeze in a little flow here and there. Hardline maps seem to provoke a lot of random play. Too early to form any concrete opinions on this, but I recall instantly loving BF4's maps.

So this is going to be $40 at Best Buy next week...already. It must have sold really badly or something. If you got your game at Best Buy, make sure to seek a price adjustment.

Just got done playing for about 2 hours. No spawn issues at all this time around, but I exclusively played Conquest Small (Domination in BF4 terms). Great time, saw a lot of good teamwork. A good Hacker can make all the difference, too. Not some kid with ADD who wants me to cap A, and then as soon as I do, expects me to run to the other side of the map and cap C even though there are 5 squads between me and C. No, just keep me at A to defend or send me to B to reinforce. When I get to B, take someone off B and send to C.

Oh, and this game seriously needs a Hacker app for tablets. I still play Commander on my iPad after the kids go to bed. Great way to wind down for 30 minutes.

Yeah so far in a week it barely sold 500,000 across all platforms, on PC platform it's suffering big time.

A modest price adjustment will likely change that. It's pretty obvious at this point that nobody wants to pay full price for a BF4 mod.
