Yeah as long as the shenanigans are similar to BF1942 or BF2 I’m all for it.
I read something interesting regarding the no single player or story.
Apparently many gamers say the want a story in a shooter but the data collected from games says the opposite. Many shooter buyers never even start single player and fewer play it more than 10(?) minutes. We all go to multiplayer and stay there.
BF5 missed its sales target which is insane since it sold 7 million plus but they had to aggressively discount it which I assume hit their revenue goal.
Avoiding the whole social issues regarding that game one thing cited was releasing a month late during the holidays and competing against other games. Delay was caused by wanting to polish the single player more and it turns out few people played the single player missions.
Seems like the idea is drop single player and focus on creating a good multiplayer game that is released on time.

Yeah BF5 at launch was a bit messy and it never truly hit its stride after that bad publicity. I got it on launch day. It needed more work.

I'm with all the gamers that never touch single player on these games. I buy BF for multiplayer only. Single player never gets launched, or if it does its to figure out my sensitivity and key bindings. They finally wised up and put all the resources into MP which is great; also this game took three years to develop vs the 2 year cycle they were getting into. I have high hopes due to all these factors. Of course they could still fuck it up :)

I pre ordered it, I'm a sucker for BF games. Have played them since the beginning, still play V weekly.

Lots if hate as usual for it. Some deserved and some not. Cross platforming would be nice. Would love to get a new card for it. Still slugging along on my 2080 Gaming X. I know this will stress it at my 3440x1440 res with any settings remotely high.

It would also be nice to buy one copy, and play on PC and console. Having to buy two copies, and level up two games is annoying. You should have one account, and log be able to login to one at a time. I know it'll never happen, but it's the reason I support "upgrade packs".

Anyway, looking forward to it. Like others have said, hope it's a back to basics game play.

Highly scripted game play video.
Action is fast but doesn’t seem too fast.
I think I saw a tank blast a copter and general vehicle shenanigans.
Overall I like it, storm seems to be in interesting map cleaning event.
Does appear to have a ton of choke points which is expected but I feel BF3 had too many.

Urban based maps tend to be my favorite, this looked pretty cool. I'll be buying this game. Even though BFV was a mediocre BF, I still got a lot of hours of fun out of it. Put it down earlier than other better BF games, but this can't be as bad as BFV.

It seems alright to me, really. I haven't said that in a long time for the Battlefield franchise.

My favorites are still BF1942 and BF2 (played BF2 at least 1000+ hours, just my own estimation; it's probably more), best BF experience I had for me. I did play some of BF3 (very little actually, maybe a total of 10 hours) and BF4 (a bit more than 3, maybe around 30 hours or so), then skipped all the others that followed. But this one, yeah it looks alright. The main appeal for me would be the 128 max players count. Was about damn time we got above 64 players max (at least for some specific larger maps to accommodate more players). It's something I wanted in Battlefront 2, but never happened (and turned me off real hard).

Then again, I'm still stuck with my GTX 1080 (non-Ti). Still waiting for my local PC stuffs store to actually accept orders for the new cards (any one of them). The clerk told me they won't accept any orders (or "pre" orders) until at least end of August, possibly into mid September.

This is so me, only difference is I played BF3 a bit more but still not much. Skipped every Battlefield four and beyond. Just felt I didn’t get much value out of BF3, sure it was fun for a while but same gameplay over and over. Get in bottleneck and fire everything.
I tried the battle fronts but it just didn’t seem to work, not sure why but for whatever reasons it didn’t capture the star wars feel for me. First one it felt like you were skating on the ground, second one had too many weird things about it

Battlefield Portal seems cool. Sort of like in game mods, there are items and units from 1942 to 2042. Mix and match as you feel fit, plus change victory conditions.

Quite the departure from the last decade's this how you'll play the game and you'll like it lack of options.

Yeah I like it. Also regarding above we could see BF1942 style play. Units are already there, not sure about maps but it certainly sounds possible or in worst case there are map packs which I would be okay with.

Yeah my friend and I always liked playing the 64 player conquest maps with just 32 players. BF1 and 5 were too chaotic and CODy for me, prefer the 1942 and BF2 style.

exactly my thought.
BF1 & BF5 felt too fast and too much run & gun.

COD came along and made AAA multiplayer shooters want to compete with their instant action run and gun model. I preferred BF because there were modes and maps where this wasn't always the case. I think 2042 will carry this on.

With Portal, the BF community can and will create some fun modes on the maps available to it.

Can't wait.

Not that I know of. But check. Most likely not enough players to support it. I personally loved that particular bf. Was strongly hoping for a bf 2143 this time around.

But there are a lot of die hard I am so hardcore fps gamers that think sci Fi stuff is too goofy for them.

But the weapons were great, the addition of the control of the Titan was an actual strategic element that was great.

I hope 2143 is next

Anyone paying the beta? Here's my thoughts.

Doesn't feel like the BF I'm used to but I have enjoyed the couple hours I played so far. It's much more crazy and chaotic to the point of reminding me of COD.

I do play COD, sometimes. But my go to multiplayer fps was always Battlefield.

Lately I've been enjoying Hell Let Loose too, much more realistic.

Movement is a bit floaty and much faster than previous games.

UI is a mess (does black highlight mean that is what is selected?)

Vehicles are also super light, no weight to them, also feel floaty.

Specialists have no purpose. Why does everyone get to equip of any gadget they want?

Why do all the characters look the same on both sides?

While I enjoy the large scale warfare, it's much more chaotic than previous BF games.

On the fly weapon mod is nice but then again they should have had unique weapon mods per specialist if they are going to have specialists.

I wish we got to experience a different game mode but with everyone able to use any weapon the feel might be the same.

Specialists have their own gadgets and perks they only have access to.

Webster Mackay (Assault)

  • Speciality: Grappling Hook – Fires a rope that attaches to surfaces. When attached, the rope is retracted and the player gets pulled towards the attach point
  • Trait: Nimble – Allows the player to move more quickly while aiming down sights, further enhancing their speed-related advantages
Maria Falck (Support)

  • Speciality: S21 Syrette Pistol – Fires a syringe at friendlies to provide healing. The pistol won’t revive friendlies at range, just heal them. If fired at an enemy, the syringe will do damage
  • Trait: Combat Surgeon – Allows the player to return downed allies to combat with full health when reviving
Pyotr ‘Boris’ Guskovsky (Engineer)

  • Speciality: SG-36 Sentry System – Automatically spots and engages enemy targets detected within a certain area
  • Trait: Sentry Operator – Spots the enemy target when the sentry gun locks on to the enemy in question
Wikus ‘Casper’ van Daele (Recon)

  • Speciality: OV-P Recon Drone – Spots nearby moving targets and can disorient enemies by using EMP blasts. Can also designate targets for lock-on weapons
  • Trait: Movement Sensor – Alerts the player to approaching enemies, both while boots on the ground and while piloting the Recon Drone
Kimble ‘Irish’ Graves (engineer)

  • Speciality: Fortification System – Includes the DCS Deployable Dover to protect from bullets and explosives, and the APS-36 Shootdown Sentinel to take down explosive projectiles.
  • Trait: Veteran – Provides armour, with additional bonuses from downed enemies

I personally like not being pigeon holed into terrible weapons for the map type to play the spec (assualt or medic usually) I want to play.

I'm liking the player movement. It feels smooth. The actual movement feel itself, the current animations are hot garbage.

The UI is a hot mess, easily the second worst thing about the game atm.

The worst thing? It's a tie between the revive animation (suppose to be a placeholder) and we could not figure out a way to create our own squad.

It's also nearly impossible to get more than 4 people into the same game.

Overall it's pretty damn fun but standard Battlefield, It'll be solid about 6 months after release once they break everything twice before fixing it.

In my opinion the switch from a class based system to a specialist based system is one of the worst changes in BF2042. In theory I am not opposed to the idea of bringing some unique gadgets and abilities into the game.

In the past I could tell the enemy from far away just by what they are wearing. They need to fix or add different sets of uniforms if both sides have the same specialists..wait I forgot about monetization and skins. That's probably what will happen.

In other Battlefields if you chose a class, you knew your role on the battlefield. If you play Medic, your key role is to heal and revive teammates. If you play Engi/Support, your role is to fight vehicles and provide ammunition for your team. If you play Sniper, your role is to spot and fight infantry over distance, etc. By chosing a class you always had some drawbacks as well. If you want to play Sniper, you sooner or later will run out of ammo. If you play Medic you can't fight vehicles effectively. If you play Assault you can't revive and heal yourself. In the end in other Battlefields you had more or less balanced teams (in terms of class balance) since everyone filled a niche. My current experience with BF2042 is that everyone picks the best loadout for themselves to be the least team dependent. So most of the team runs with {favourite weapon} and ammo or a rocket launcher which removes so much of the team play aspect.

I probably am in the minority here but BFV is my favourite Battlefield game. While it had its flaws, I simply don't get why they did not keep the unanimously well received features like the movement or gunplay/TTK. Especially the movement seems like a big step back. Why not keep crouch sprinting? Why not keep lying prone on the back? Why not keep rolling after a big drop? It all made you feel more connected to your character and made the movement feel more weighty.

BF2042 was the game I was looking forward the most this year and so far I am very disappointed. I simply don't get why they removed the good things from BFV (Movement, Gunplay, TTK) and added new stuff that does not fit the game at all and nobody asked for (Specialists).

It just seems they are going for a different audience here. If I want COD like movement and 50 meter ass slides with extra sprint, and grappling on walls, etc, I also usually have the latest COD installed so I occasionally play that for some quick fun. Now it seems I don't really need to have both.

I'm sure the game will sell well because of these new changes to appeal to a different crowd. But it's disappointing that the game took a complete different direction in the series.

I'll still get the game on release to see if they actually improve anything on it so I'll hold my judgement until then. In my opinion it could use another delay to work out all the feedback I've seen but that wouldn't be practical at this point.
