Battlefield '42 goes jerky till I bring up scores...

When I play battlefield 1942, it runs fine for a while but sometimes the game will go all jerky and the frame rate will drop to around 3 fps (just a guess, but about that). The weird thing is, though, when I press tab and bring up the scores/pings etc the problem is instantaneously, although temporarily, fixed. This thing has me perplexed, I'm certainly not getting this because I have set the graphics settings too high, as after I release tab and hide the scores the game will run perfectly for a while, and it still happens when I drop the settings to minimum.

Does anyone know what could be going on here? I don't have anything running in the background that could suddenly take up resources, so I'm totally stumped.

Thanks in advance for your help,

-Loïc

Suntek case...

Windows XP, SP1 with all the other SP2 fixes.
DX 9.0b, very latest BIOS flash, MOBO drivers and Video card drivers available.

Other games like counter-strike run perfectly with absolutely no jerkiness at all. I've found that the jerkiness happens more often when I turn left or right: if I turn the turret in the tank, look left/right as a soldier or bank the aircraft hard... I've resinstalled the game, but that made no difference. Incidentally, it did it with the demo as well.

Thanks again,

compairing the demands of battlefield to countstrike is a little crazy. CS will run on a 300P2 64mb 8mb vid fairly well.

Sounds card drivers are the latest too. I think it's just a botched windows install... it never used to do this so it's got to be something to do with the OS or some other software problem. It doesn't matter I guess, got a new machine arriving monday which should sort all these problems out.

cheers anyways,

-Loïc

I have this same problem as you and my system is a little different. I think it's a game bug, I just noticed it with patch 1.45. We dont need more than one Microsoft releasing "patches". :frown:

As for the sound that is a major bug, my Hercules Fortissimo III 7.1 and the nVidia SoundStorm in the other computer both have problems. The game is just buggy that's all, your computer's just fine.
