Battlefield 4 PS4 vs XBO comparisons are out - 50% more pixels, higher framerate

I remember reading a while ago that BF4 was also 720p on the PS4. They had lowered the res to offer a higher frame rate. Though maybe they've managed to tweak it a bit since then.

but the real question is which among these is easier to code for, for game developers, and that is the console that will come on top.

Weird, I'm getting 1440p, better textures and details, and also a higher framerate than both.... oops wrong forum

not near as big a difference as I expected.

However, anyone notice that the xbone version didn't have the truck convoy in the beginning?

IGN has a video that shows off some of the multiplayer as well on both, it really shows more of a difference there. Digital Foundry screwed up their comparasion pretty badly from what I've read/seen with not having the options set up for both consoles correctly. The X1's blacks/whites were crushed. When the PC/PS4/X1 all shown side by side, the PC/PS4 look very close, while the X1 just looks odd. It is suspected it is because RGB Full was not turned on the X1. I think it was IGN that did it to the PS4 and got the same results then as it looked on the X1.

It also doesn't help that the ground textures and camo (maybe other things) get random textures and aren't the same each time.

But overall the X1 version is big step back. 50% less res, lower frame rate, particles and objects missing or amount tone down (X1 version is missing dark clouds wtf?), and a lot more aliasing.

Yep, and the denial crowd are already in full force.

"I don't care!" "I want to pay MORE for lower quality cross platform games!" "It looks the same to me!" <--- needs glasses.

But still, nearly the same, while pushing 50% more pixels, while offering a higher framerate most of the time, is pretty telling. I thought the real world advantage of that theoretical advantage would be well below 40%, but this seems to imply it's higher than expected.

They both use GCN/X86. If anything the PS4 is easier to code for as you have more performance on tap, and no tiny eDRAM to try to use to give some respite from the dogcrap DDR3.

Yep. It's even tangible in this game in terms of gameplay. Take a look at that 1080p full frame comparison. Look at the distant buildings. Now imagine you're in a game, scanning for snipers on the enemy team. On the XB1, it's a blurry mushy mess, while on the PS4 you're far more likely to see some indications that someone is there. I get the same thing on PC playing on a 1440p screen vs. 1080p at extreme ranges.

This is just more pronounced because even things not very far from the player are mushy/chunky on XB1 variant.

ps4 looks noticeably crisper in those videos.

hasn't sony been pushing bf4, and ms has been pushing ghosts? i swear i see bf4 commercials that talk about ps3 and ps4, then the ghosts ones talk about 360 and x1.

KT, avoid Youtube for this kind of thing, they absolutely crush 720p and especially 1080p videos with compression, rendering it (hah) basically useless for detail comparisons. The bitrate is abominable. I understand the reasoning due to $ considerations, but it's truly awful.

If we can get someone to re-up it to Vimeo, we can get a dramatically clearer picture.

If you want to know what I'm talking about, load this video up :

"720P Forza".

I have the game on my 360, and side by side with that video the actual 360 looks like a supercomputer by comparison to that so-called '720p'.

I have also uploaded 720p videos to Youtube. The source looks great, but when Youtube gets done 'processing' it, it looks like garbage. 480p high bitrate literally looks better.

Flip back and forth in your browser and you can see a pretty clear difference.

From this IGN video.

Hmm yes, draw distance looks very noticeably different between the two. Thanks for the pic links, I can't see the IGN link right now. Interesting stuff.

Ah yes, true enough. I guess I should just wait until I am home to look at all of this anyway. :D

Weird, I did not know they downgraded stuff like that (I've never uploaded anything to Youtube before). That stinks.

It truly does. A handful of things get better treatment, usually because they are being a paid commercial site, so major movie trailers and music videos that get tens of millions of hits are allowed a higher bitrate superior streaming. But 99% of the time you get their default super compressed format. It makes the file sizes on their end much smaller, and because Youtube was (is?) such a money loser, it's probably their way of trying to keep the costs down as much as possible.

It's not denial, it's just that it isn't the 50% improvement in graphics all the Sony fanboys promised me. The X1 version looks almost as good as the PS4 version, in some scenes it can look better. The framerate is only slight better in the majority of what we've seen. I don't think I'll be pining for the PS4 anytime soon so I can get that 52fps instead of 48.

Higher framerates AND higher resolution. Ooof. This is much bigger than 360 vs PS3.

that is definitely true

I'm hard pressed to find a 360/ps3 game that has such glaringly different graphical issues.

Keep in mind..this is a game that is next-gen as GTA 5 is to GTA 4, so it's not exactly pushing it.

Wow, you're right it's not denial. It's delusion.

FANBOY FIGHT!!!!

Seriously, I have zero stake in which is better, but to say it's "clear" that the PS4 is vastly better is a little silly. I've seen some screens that do indeed look slightly better and others that I thought the XO looked at least as good if not maybe better. But the reality is when you're playing, those differences become so minute either way that it likely makes little to no difference to 99% of the people playing.

So, to say this is somehow terrible news for Microsoft is laughable at best. It's not great news, it's mostly just irrelevant news.

Sorry, but there's just not enough of an improvement over the X1 for the PS4 version to warrant all the cock stroking going on. It's weird how this morning, PS4 fanboys were freaking out and throughout the day, they've somehow convinced themselves that the PS4 screenshots are night and day better.
