We finally have the reason why Battlefield 4 looked so crispy and almost like a CG video. The demo showcased during the official reveal featured 17 minutes of gameplay and the graphics were simply out of this world.
DICE’s Patrick Bach has revealed the reason for the visual fidelity. It was apparently running at 3k resolution.
“It was a decent PC, yes. But you can still buy it, so it’s not like alien technology or anything,” he said to CVG. “It’s still a PC that you can buy and it’s still unoptimised code. Another thing that you might not have realised is that we ran it at 3K resolution at 60fps, and you don’t do that. Nobody talked about pixels because at that size you couldn’t see them.”
That explains why the demo was fantastic. Missed it? Check it out here. The demo was running on dual 7990 AMD GPU.

You mean 1 x 7990 (dual GPU card), not 2 x 7990.

60 fps at 3k res on a single 7990 is beastly.. heard rumors the 7990 is using a new GCN core and not just tahiti dies?

I read in another article, they used 2-7990's, also.

edit: I can't find the article (specific sentence) to confirm what I read. Maybe it was only 1.

Tahiti. I don`t know why people are so amazed by it. 7990 have been out like forever now. We know the performance. And it was 2x 7990 running Battlefield 4. No way a single 7990 can run it at 3K at 60FPS. No chance in hell
During GDC 2013 AMD have finally announced their own Radeon HD 7990, codenamed "Malta", consisting of two Tahiti XT chips (HD 7970), clocked at over 1GHz with 3GB VRAM per chip

Malti chip we don't know what AMD's done to it - but when they say dual - single card......dual chips ;)

running that at 60 frames is a bit beastly -

Everything that's said; AMD when back to the drawing board for their 7990 - so what they've cooked up.....we'll just have to wait and see....

What I get out of this is that the game will run fine on my 7870 at 1920x1200 with some stuff turned off or down.

i built a PC to play at 1200p and soon 1440p on Ultra.

This was kind of the point.

I see Malta dies in 7990.. and some reference Tahiti, dont know what it is.. if its Malta, it could be slightly modified like the 7790 die, GCN 1.1 etc, massive perf/w gains.

I agree 2x Tahiti 7970s has no chance in hell running 60 fps @ 3k resolution.

If its just 2x Tahiti, its pretty underwhelming and rather POINTLESS to release the 7990 this late into the generation.

I think it is to offer 7970 CF but with much less stuttering the CF is known for, thanks to the technology they will incorporate in to the GPU (like GTX 690 also have). Plus its rumored price $700 so it could be to combat GTX 690 since the OEM 7990s is $1000+ in price. This is the reason why AMD postponed 8000 series until Q4 2013 or 2014, because they will combat Titan with a dual GPU instead.

Maybe steal some thunder from Titan "Look we can offer better performance for much less price while also having a (semi)smooth experience without stuttering).

Seeing how its code name for the dies is Matla; yes while based on Tahiti; its not the Tahiti die - what AMD has done we don't know yet; but they've done something...

As reports said; AMD went back to the drawing board and put together their 7990 which will be the standard :) We just got to wait and see - as AMD's Malta 7990 has to beat the 690 to take the crown as fastest graphics card; as the Titan can't even that ;)

Am I the only one who still isn't impressed by BF4 at all? I mean...what is happening that never happened before in a game, technically?

Maybe I'm just not into military shooters anymore but I still play them.

Yeah, i think its very likely.... It also explain why this card only uses 2x8 power conections....while the "older" cards uses 3x8

The partner 7990's aren't very elegant solutions. The 690 is just way more refined. The Devil 13 looks Steam Punk by comparison. I can't imagine that AMD would release that as a reference design to go against the 690. Here's hoping that the 7990 Malta is an improvement over the 690. They've had a number of months to refine things.

I'd like whatever 3K monitor they used for this demo. Unless it was a projector. I which case, no thank you.
