Battlefield 2: Weird problem.

Hey..

I've just upgraded my old system, and now I'm getting some weird behaviour from Battlefield 2 (patch v1.21).

When I start the game, every intro videos stops somewhere in the middle/end, and after a couple of seconds starts again. The same goes for the background video in the menu.

When ever I start a game, after a few seconds everything stops. And when I try to return to Windows it takes forever.

Since I couldn't afford a better video card at the time, I temporarily got an X300 SE.

But BF2 is the only game that behaves this way. Splinter Cell 3, UT2004, FarCry, CMR05 and Toca Race Driver 2 all runs fine (when it comes to graphics).

Any idea why?

My system is:

ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe.
AMD64 Opteron 165 @ 2.43GHz.
ASUS Extreme AX300SE-HM/TD.
2GB PQI PC3200 TCCD.
400W PSU.

do you have the AMD dual core driver?
do you have the MS dual core hotfix or assign bf2.exe to only one core?

try disabling one of your LAN ports (the one you arent using, of course).

Nah.. Same stupid thing happens.

Disabling Cool'n'Quiet, 2nd lan port, re-install dual core driver, doing the hot fix.. Nothing works!

Thanks for trying anyway..

Well.. It appeard the heating would cause it. I lowered the multiplier and voltage so the idle temperature was 33-35 degrees celsius. I started the game and loaded a map, all working fine. Right untill it did it again. I alt+tabbed my way to windows, where the temperature was 44 degrees celsius.

In my book that isn't hot. Maybe in Dice's it is..

lol get rid of the video 🙂

go here
Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies eg "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Movies"

then add .backup to all vides eg "Dice.bik.backup" "EA.bik.backup" ect
make sure you don't delete the video or name them something eles becuase when game does a scan and doesn't find them ;! it will discount you from the online server.

turn down all your graphic to low and make sure texture is on low :! then turn up visibility range to %100. don't worry the game looks really good in even low but would ran way better.

check the tweak guide for BF2 http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2_1.html

This is stupid.. I reinstalled Windows (had to test an unattended installation) and installed the Omega driver for ATI. And now BF2 runs flawless!! I don't get it!

My experience with BF2 is that it's not easy to get working if your system configuration changes. I haven't made any changes to is and have had to reinstall it 3 times since last July. One time was soon after the release of one of their buggy patches. Congrats on getting it working.
