I have recently upgraded my system and would like to purchase a new video card that can handle BF2. I am looking at the BFG 6800gt. Any one else have any suggestions? Would a 9800 All in wonder work? I need to keep the price under $300

For $300, get the 6800GT< or X800XL. I think the XL is a tad faster, but probably not so much that you would notice. Get whichever is cheaper.

Or buy a used card thats better, for the same price.

you can find a 6800 utlra for about 350 for the pci-e version right now in the forums. Even less for the agp version
you can find an x800xl for around 250

So half say 6800gt other half say X800XL. Hmm. Well if the x800xl is cheaper and performs as well as the 6800gt then I know which one I am going for. WHo here uses the x800xl.

Prices have dropped a lot recently. 6800gts are about $300, and ultras about $375.

x800xls are still about $250. btw, these are all pci-e prices.

Specifiying the bus might help. If it's AGP then the 6800GT is proebably the best bet, and PCIe the X800XL. Strictly speaking bang/buck. If you have other constraits you must say so.

i have a x850xt AGP OEM on the way ($399 @ the egg). everybody tells me it's overkill for BF2 (excellent!) but i wanna use it for future games too. would've gotten x800XL but agp is so much more expensive.

X800XL PCIe $250
6800GT AGP for $300

If you can find deals on used cards like have been posted, then just choose what is cheapest between these cards (or their higher end alternatives).

Also x800xt aiw is about $330 in AGP.

I dunno what you people are talking about, the 6800GT is faster then the x800XL in like every game except Half-Life 2.

Is the extra 5 fps worth 100 dollars?

Hello,

I have a bfg6800u and play bf2. To go on any map and not have to worry about slow frame rates I have to adjust my options according and as far I as can tell quality doesn't suffer. BF2, from what I have gathered needs 2 gb of ram to run smoothly and still have consistently higher frame rates. Your 6800 gt is going to give you about the same performance as the ultra. If i had it over to do again i would probabaly get the gt instead of the ultra. I got the ultra because i found a deal thru dell. Paid $419 last Nov.

I strongly suggest that you give BFG consideration. Lifetime warranty 24/7 support. I can't give you much info on ATI but they do have a good product. Here is a poll (not scentific but take it for what its worth )
POLL

I remember the situation your in last winter... what video card to get....

just keep up your research and you will end up with what you want...

good luck
